WBC Teams

With the team concept, everyone can compete in their favorite game in the same overall tournament without need of a common default game. Players compete in their events normally for individual honors, but their standings in the event they have selected as their entry in the Team Tournament also score points for their team.

ELIGIBILITY: Teams are composed of any four players who have pre-registered as a team to play four different games for which they have pre-registered. Teams may alter their player and game choices by mail or phone prior to 5 days before the start of the WBC. Teams of less than four members are not allowed. Team enrollments or alterations are not possible during the convention. Recruiting reliable members who will fulfill their team obligations is an important aspect of the Team Tournament. Missing members cannot be replaced, nor will game choices be altered from the last list submitted prior to the convention. Team members may play in the same individual tournaments but should inform their GM of their teammate status so as to minimize chances of playing each other.

PRIZE: Besides listing on our permanent Champions plaque, the winners will receive individual Team Tournament Plaques which will be sent to them after the convention so that they can be specially engraved with a recap of the team's exploits provided they have a usable team photo taken before leaving.

TEAM TOURNAMENT POINT SCHEDULE
Event Entrants 1st 2nd 3rd-4th 5th-6th
128+ 10 5 4 3
64+ 9 4 3 2
32+ 8 3 2 1
16+ 7 2 1 0
8+ 6 1 0 0
1+ 4 0 0 0

Tie Breaker: Total number of participants in all four events.
Scoring:If you've placed high enough in the Event, you've won points for your team, even if there is no physical prize. The higher you place and the more entrants in the event, the more points you earn. GMs do not make any special scoring provisions or report Team Standings separately. All Team Points are awarded automatically after the GM turns in the normal Winner's Claim for his event.

In an attempt to improve the speed with which the standings are updated, we will be switching to a Self-Service system this year. Every Team Member, whether he/she scores a point or not, should post his point total on the Team Tournament kiosk Standings Board as soon as it is known. While these results will be unofficial they should allow attendees to gain a more current sense of where they are in the Standings. Since the results of many events are not known until after the convention ends, official scoring will still be done post-convention. But the self-service scoring system should allow teams that are in contention to get their team pictures taken "just in case" and give everyone a better "ballpark" feel for where they are during the convention.

So don't forget, this year post your own score as soon as it known.
