Breakout Normandy Weekend
Nov. 10 —12, 2006
Days Hotel, Timonium, MD

The designer/developer will once again be hosting a dedicated gaming weekend for fans of Breakout Normandy at the Days Hotel in Timonium, MD on Nov. 10 through 12 as a wargaming alternative adjunct to Euro Quest IV. Play is restricted to the first 32 pre-registrants.

Like the first eight events, this one will be dedicated solely to the play of that game in five Swiss rounds using a format similar to that used at WBC. You may play in as many rounds as you like, but since there will be no other wargames to lure you away, it is hoped most will compete in all five, win or lose. Indeed, last year’s event generated more Breakout Normandy games played than the WBC championships.

First round begins Friday at 6 pm, with late arrivals paired as they arrive thereafter. Alternately, those unable to arrive Friday afternoon may substitute a game played prior to that weekend either live or by email for the first round provided both players are pre-registered and will attend. Second round begins at 9 am on Saturday. The fifth and final round will be at 8 am on Sunday.

We will continue using the banked supply bidding system introduced in 1999. Instead of bidding VPs for sides, all games will be played to 9.6 VC. Players desiring the same side will, instead, auction bid the number of extra supplies they will grant the Allied player at start for the privilige of playing the Germans. The player bidding the highest gets the Germans; his opponent starts the game with that many supplies banked in reserve which can be used ONLY to buy extra impulses. A player wanting to play the Allies can bid negative supply if necessary. If players desire opposite sides, they will play their preference with no bid.

As all players are expected to play in all five rounds, strength of schedule (number of opponent’s wins) will be used as a tie breaker. WBC plaques will be provided for first through sixth place.

Admission is $30 for BPA members who pre-register by Nov. 1. Non-member preregistration price and the at-the door price is $40. Download the Registration Form and send your check to BPA, 1541 Redfield Rd, Bel Air, MD 21015. The D-Day pre-registration fee is a discounted rate extended in exchange for a guarantee to attend. As such, no refunds are allowed. The event will run concurrently with Euro Quest but will be housed in a separate room. Those arriving early or having spare time between rounds may avail themselves of the Euro events at no extra charge.

The Days Hotel is located at 9615 Deerco Road, Baltimore, MD 21093. Phone: 800-235-3297 or 410-560-1000. Fax: 410-561-3918. It is off I-83 Exit 17, Padonia Road, about 3 miles south of Hunt Valley. It is a half-mile walk from the Light Rail connection to BWI Airport and 4 blocks from Timonium Fairgrounds station. BWI Airport Shuttle is available. See BPA’s Day Hotel page for a map and more hotel information.

D-Day IX offers a convention special discounted rate of $79 per night plus applicable taxes until Nov. 1 or our room block sells out, whichever occurs first. Mention “D-Day or Euro Quest” when reserving your room. Room options include one king or two queen size beds. Reservations must be received no later than Nov. 1. Room rate includes daily continental breakfast served from 6:30 am-9:30 am on second floor. Regular weekend rates are $99 per night plus applicable taxes. Chili’s restaurant is attached to the hotel and is open for lunch and dinner.
