One of the objectives of the BPA Board of Directors is to give the membership greater visibility into the deliberations of the board and to give insight into the things being discussed. To that end, we are publishing a quarterly “Tenth Chair” update so that everyone has a better sense of what’s going on with the board and the deliberations we are undertaking for the convention. This article details board activities from July through September 2024.

Safety Committee

The board’s safety committee reported back on a relatively small number of issues that occurred at WBC 2024, and the board handled them with recommendations and directives.

GM Process for submitting results

As a result of a significant number of GMs not being able to email registration lists in a timely manner, for 2025, the convention will be returning to a requirement that registrations be handed in by GMs at the time of event form submission. There will continue to be a computer made available in the registration room for GMs to print off any electronically collected sheets.

Tech Committee

In her first months in the Project Manager position, Peggy Ng was able to distill our requirements into an RFP that was sent to 20+ companies that can fulfill the needs of the BPA in website and database development. Peggy and the committee reviewed the many responses, met with the finalists and agreed to move forward with Gravity Works to develop our website and technological infrastructure.

Juniors Committee

The board was very happy with the success of the new initiatives run by the Juniors Room in 2024. The T-Shirts and Junior badges in particular were a great success while the movie night and ice cream social events were well attended. The committee hopes to build upon that momentum with more upgrades to the Juniors program in 2025.

Continued Commitment to Engagement

The Board is commited to continuing to take a more active role in communicating over Social Media throughout the year. We are continuing to commit to answering questions asked in the WBC specific forums on ConSimWorld, Facebook, and BoardGameGeek. If you are not comfortable publicly asking your question, you can also contact us through email to Ken directly at conventiondirector@boardgamers.org or to the entire board at bod@boardgamers.org.
