One of the objectives of the BPA Board of Directors is to give the membership greater visibility into the deliberations of the board and to give insight into the things being discussed. To that end, we are publishing a quarterly “Tenth Seat” update so that everyone has a better sense of what’s going on with the board and the deliberations we are undertaking for the convention. This article details board activities from October to December 2025.

New Assistant Convention Director Hired

The board has added a new Assistant Convention Director position and offered that role to Rebecca Roppolo. Rebecca will be primarily responsible for reviewing the processes around running, managing, and preparing for WBC as well as to assist the Convention Director with the preparation and running of the WBC.

Legacy Games Impact on the Century

Across the past few years some of the games that have previously been granted legacy status from the board have improved their attendance such that they would qualify for the century. Starting for WBC2027, when a legacy game would earn a century position, it will be granted a position in the century. This does not remove it’s legacy protection in future years.

Website Updates

The board has entered into a contract with a new Website Development company to redevelop the WBC web page and backend databases. We are excited for this new partnership and are looking forward to a long working relationship with many improved processes and efficiencies.

Future Contract for WBC 2028-2037

The board is undertaking a robust search for a venue for the 2028-2037 WBC. Many locations (including Seven Springs) are being considered. When the board has received all responses from available resorts and convention centers, they will review the suitable locations and make a selection.

Convention Co-Marketing

The board is excited to begin working on some new initiatives to co-market our convention with other tournament focused board game conventions across North America. We firmly believe that better awareness of all the available options can only make better the experience for all gamers. The first of these initiatives involved the World Series of Boardgaming where that convention will give a benefit to WBC winners of their events in exchange for their convention offering a Sustaining membership to their overall winner.

Membership Fees

After much consideration, the board has made the decision to raise its membership rates for 2026 and forward. Having not raised rates for the past 10 years we felt like it was an appropriate step, especially as we move into new negotiations where the market may dictate higher costs that the convention has enjoyed for the past 10 years. New rates are detailed on our website, with discounts available to junior and teen members.
