Sun.,
July 29 at 2 p.m. through Tues., July 31, 2007
with
final three SE Rounds scheduled during WBC at convenience
of qualifiers
Lancaster Host, Lancaster PA
  Welcome
to the fifth Guns of August mini-con which features dedicated play
of GMT’s Path of Glory in Campaign Game format. Not
actually part of WBC proper, Guns of August is a sort of opening
skirmish for those who can’t get enough of a good thing.
WBC
attendees have long lamented the many conflicts between their favorite
games at WBC. With the growing popularity of the card-driven games
it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid conflicts for fans
of the genre. So many games, so little time.
Since
so many of our attendees have large investments in travel costs to
attend WBC, there has always been a certain element which wanted
a longer convention so that they could get more bang for their travel
buck while increasing the number of events they can play. The problem
with this is how to scratch this itch without infringing on those
for whom a longer convention is just out of the question.
Our
solution was to select a few events for early play—those with
similar game systems and long playing times that could benefit from
uninterrupted swiss-style play without outside distractions.
Paths
of Glory will
begin on Sunday. The Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, and Final Rounds
will be scheduled during WBC at convenience of qualifiers, under the direction
of GM Peter
Reese.
For
other event details, see the POG (Paths of Glory) Preview.
Tribune
members may freely partake in any and all of BPA’s Pre-Cons
during the two days preceding WBC. Play
at Guns of August for non-Tribune/Sponsor level members requires a
separate registration fee of $20 for BPA members pre-registered by
July 21, 2007, or $30 non-members and everyone who registers after
July 21, payable to the BPA, 1541 Redfield Rd, Bel Air, MD 21015. This
fee can be paid separately or in addition to other WBC fees noted on
the WBC pre-registration form. If paid at the door, the higher fee
will apply. Pre-registration is highly recommended.
WBC
special room rates at the Lancaster Host apply to all days of the
pre-con. See our travel and accommodations
page for
details.
