Join in the fun with this gem from Reiner Knizia! Ingenious is an abstract tile placement game. Players place double-sided colored tiles onto the hexagonal board, scoring points in six different colors for rows of matching colors. Only a player's lowest color score counts as their final score, however, so one must be careful to focus on every color. Limitless tile combinations make Ingenious incredibly replayable. The simple yet clever gameplay ensures short, tense games. One of the finest German abstracts in existence, Ingenious works very well in tournament play and provides an opportunity to earn laurels in just a few hours total!

In this tournament, 4-player games will be the default. 3-player games will be used only when necessary. There will be no 2-player games. The GM will play only as an eliminator if needed. In any game involving the GM, two designated assistant GMs will adjudicate if need be. Each round is scheduled for one hour; the GM will adjudicate games that have not finished at the end of the hour.

Sixteen players will advance from three heats to the elimination rounds, Semifinals and Final. The Final will start as soon as possible after the completion of the semifinal; both elimination rounds should finish in two hours. The tournament is structured to encourage players to play in multiple heats, and there is no penalty for playing in more heats. With a 16-player Semifinal, only a fraction of the field is able to advance to the elimination rounds, so participation in more than one heat is likely necessary to secure a spot in the Semifinal. The GM will post a list of qualifiers and alternates for the elimination rounds shortly after the conclusion of the third heat. In the past, alternates have usually been needed, so make sure to check the kiosk and appear for the elimination rounds even if you do not place in the top 16.

Every year there is a shortage of games. Only players who bring a copy of the game will be guaranteed a spot in a given heat. In the past, the GM has had to turn away players without games, so make sure to bring a copy if possible. And if you don't own a copy, go buy one; you won't regret it!

Criteria for Advancement:

    1. Most wins
    2. Most second-place finishes
    3. Highest combined percentage of winning score (if runner-up) or runner-up score (if winner) in top two heat finishes
    4. Die roll (very unlikely!)

RULES NOTE: The tournament will use the rule given in some editions that the game immediately ends if one player achieves a perfect game (i.e. reaches 18 - an Ingenious in all six colors).

Feel free to email the GM with any and all questions.
