Liar's Dice is a classic, simple, and fun dice game! Players bid and bluff, causing players to lose their five dice until only one player is left standing. The rules are well-explained in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jK3CX50GmJw
As in years past, the tournament will be single elimination. Players will be randomly divided into tables of six players each, with tables of five being created to accommodate an odd number of players. As the GM will be playing in this event, the random distribution will be made such that the GM is not playing in any first-round games with other assistant GMs.
The winners of each table will advance to a semifinal round that will consist of at least 36 players (six games of six players each), with the winning six advancing to the Final.
If there are insufficient first place winners to create a full semifinal of 36, the remainder will be drawn randomly from the second-place finishers at each table. If there are more than 36 first place winners due to an unexpectedly high number of entrants, the extra winners will be divided as evenly as possible among the six games in the semifinal.
The rules used for the event will be the Liar's Dice 30th Anniversary Edition rules with the following variant rules added:
- The Show and Re-roll Rule (i.e., players will be permitted to make a bid, show some dice to the other players by placing them outside of their cup, and then re-roll all the remaining dice); and
- The Die Hard Rule (i.e., players with one final die may not be eliminated when a challenged bid that was exactly correct causes every player to lose a die).
The GM knows that the 30th Anniversary Edition changed the board layout from past editions of Liar's Dice. Because not everyone owns the 30th Anniversary Edition and we'll need as many people as possible to bring their copies to the tournament to ensure everyone can play, you'll just need to play the edition at your particular table. The Final will be played on the 30th Anniversary Edition board.
The basic rules and the variant rules will be explained immediately before the tournament starts. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome.
