Released in 2016, Scythe has been one of the hottest games of the past few years, buoyed by a broad fan base. It combines elements of other efficiency- based, Euro-style strategy games along with a splash of area control and combat. Add in some stellar artwork and high production-value components, and the game offers something for just about every type of board game enthusiast.

This year's tournament will be run with the following rules and criteria:

  • The base game will be used, without expansions (promotional objective and factory cards are considered expansions and will not be used)
  • Preference will be for 5-player tables, with 4-player tables rounding out the heats as needed
  • Player mats and factions will be paired randomly, including allowing the Rusviet-Industrial pairing
  • Players will draw their two objective cards, and the building bonus objective will be revealed. This will allow players to consider these as part of their bids.
  • Before the game begins, players will bid, in points subtracted from their final score, for the faction/mat pairs they want. Bidding will be "Vegas Showdown"-style: players take turns bidding for the faction they want; players must make a new winning bid if they were outbid during the round; players do not make a new bid if they have not been outbid; and the bidding ends when each player has a winning bid placed

This year's tournament will run 3 heats, with 25 players advancing to the semifinals using the following criteria, in order:

  • Most wins
  • Most 2nd place finishes
  • Best 2nd place finish, as a percentage of the winning score
  • Second best 2nd place finish, as a percentage of the winning score
  • Third best 2nd place finish, as a percentage of the winning score
  • Most 3rd place finishes

Additional Prizes: Winner receives a Scythe Legendary box signed by Jamey Stegmaier (courtesy of Stonemaier Games). GM will provide heat winners with a Scythe $50 promo metal coin. Finalist will each get a set of painted meeples for the faction they play in the final.
