2022 Tournament Format  HMW-Points

Join other would-be Alexanders, Caesars and Napoleons, as we try to lead our empires to glory! Played over 7 Epochs (turns), players expand their territory with Risk-like mechanics. Unlike Risk, there is no player elimination as each Epoch a player guides a new Empire each time. Points are scored for territory controlled (values of areas change over time) as well as capitals and monuments.>/p? >p? The version of the game used in the event is the Hasbro edition (2001). The Z-man version (2018) will not be used.

**NOTE: Set-up Rule - Games in 2022 will continue to have Major Events dealt such that each card stack contains one, and only one, Minor Empire.

The event format consists of two heats advancing the top 18 players to the semifinals using the Heats Most Wins – Points standard tiebreakers.

Brief demo will be conducted Wednesday morning for new players. If you have only played the Avalon Hill version, please stop by the demo to learn the differences.

This game is scheduled for 6 hours, a LONG game, many are completed early; however, occasionally a game will run longer. All players are expected to complete the game they start. Please alert the GM or Assistant GMs to repeated slow play so that measures might be taken prior to 1am.

The top 18 will advance to the semifinal. Be sure to check the event kiosk after the heats have concluded to find the rankings for advancement to the semifinals. Also, if you are not in the top 18 players as listed on the kiosk you may still be eligible for play in the semifinals if a player (or players) above you in the rankings chooses not to continue. Come prior to the start of the semifinal round to see if a slot has opened.

For the finals, non-winners during the semifinal are ranked based upon their score in their game as a percentage of the game winning score. For example, if the winning score for a game is 200 and your score is 190, then your percentage would be 95. The three semifinal winners move on along with the top three non-winning semifinalists based again upon their score as a percentage of their individual semifinal game winning score.

Please bring a copy of the game if you are driving! We know that it is a rather large and heavy item, but we are always on the edge of not having enough copies for the number of participants wanting to play. It would be unfortunate if players were unable to compete due to a lack of games.

If you have any questions or comments concerning the game or the event, please feel free to contact me at the email link above.

  3. Fewest total points behind first place in second place finishes. Not playing in a heat counts as an N/A for this criteria, not 0 points
  4. Fewest total points behind first place in all finishes. Not playing in a heat counts as an N/A for this criteria, not 0 points
  5. Fewest Heats
  6. High dice roll.
