2023 Tournament Format  Single Elimination

The first two rounds will be a round robin if we have over 34 players. If there are 34 players or less, then only one round of round robins will be played. Players will be broken into groups of four (depending on numbers, we may have one group of five or six). You will play everyone in your group once (or three people if in the group of five or six; the group of five will include one game against an eliminator for one player).

The top player in every group will automatically advance to the next round. If there is a tie, the top player will be determined by head-to-head result, then banners won, then total difference between blocks won and blocks lost. In the unlikely event a tie remains, the winner will be decided by die roll.

The runners-up from the groups will fill the spots to make the single elimination rounds four or eight players. Runner-up will be determined by number of wins, followed by number of banners won, and total difference between blocks won and blocks lost. In the unlikely event that there is still a tie, the player who advances will be decided by die roll.

If we have 34 or less, the second round will be an elimination round with 8 players.

If we have 34 or more, the second round will be another round of round robins. Otherwise, four will advance to elimination rounds after a second-round robin.

The elimination rounds will be a strict ladder (1 plays 8, 2 plays 7). Assignment to a ladder position will be semi-random. All 3-0 winners will be randomly assigned the top positions.

The elimination rounds will be two-game matches against the same opponent.

The tentative scenarios are from Expansion 1 and Expansion 2. These are subject to change:

  • Round-robin Round 1: Mantinea (Expansion 1)
  • Round robin Round 2 (if necessary): Sotium (Expansion 2)
  • Elimination Quarterfinals (if necessary): Angrivarii Rampart (Expansion 2)
  • Semifinal: Gabiene (Expansion 1)
  • Final: Ipsus (Expansion 1)
