Beginners are welcome! Sagrada is an easy game to learn, and the event welcomes those new to the game. Please be familiar with the rules or attend the demo if you have never played before.
Game Description: In Sagrada, each player builds a stained-glass window by placing colored dice on their 4 by 5 player board. Dice of the same shade (value) or color may never be placed next to each other. Additionally, each board is unique and has restrictions on which color or shade of die can be placed in certain spots. Each round, players draft two dice in a serpentine format, meaning the starting player each round picks the first and last die. The game lasts 10 rounds and the starting player rotates each round. Scoring occurs by fulfilling conditions on public objectives (3 are used each game) and 1 private objective (unique for each player). Players can spend tokens to use tools that break placement rules or manipulate dice in various ways.
Event Format: Heat Most Wins - Points (HMW-P). There will be three Heats, with the top 16 players advancing to the Semifinal. The Semifinal will consist of 4 games, with the winner of each advancing to the Final. The Heat most Wins Points standard tiebreakers will be used to determine the top 16 players.
Advancing to the Semifinal: This should serve as a guide only, as player count and specific results vary each year. In the previous two events, those players winning two heats were guaranteed a spot in the Semifinal. The remaining spots were filled by players with 1 win and at least 1 second place finish.
Game Format: To ensure consistency for all players, only the base game of Sagrada will be played in all rounds. Players who bring their own copies of Sagrada should ensure all expansion content is set aside and not included in the set-up.
New for 2023: Based on player feedback, players will be able to see the public objectives before selecting their player board. In addition, the GM will select the public objectives for the 4 Semifinal tables (same 3 for each table) and a new set of public objectives for the Final table. These objectives will only be revealed to the players at the start of the game.
HEATS: MOST WINS - POINTS (HMW-P):
- Most Wins (e.g., total in all heats entered)
- Total Points – Players earn the following pints in each heat they entered:
- 1st Place - 1,000 points
- 2nd Place - 100 points
- 3rd Place - 10 points
- 4th Place - 1 points
- All other places - 0 points
- e.g. player has a 1st, 2nd, and 4th in three heats: total points would be 1,101
- GM Specific Tie-breaker - None Specified
- High dice roll.
