7 Wonders Duel is a thrilling and intricate two-player drafting game that takes moments to learn but a lifetime to master. Players take turns drafting cards from a tableau during three successive ages to work toward one of the three victory conditions: supremacy in either military or science or holding the most civilian points at the end of the game.
The tournament format will be similar to last year. Based on tournament history and game availability the default this year will continue to be playing without the two expansions. However, players may request to play with the expansions during the heats and will be seated with other players wishing to play in that format.
There will be two heats, followed by continuous single elimination rounds. During each heat, all players will play two games, one game as the first player and one game as the second player. Players may attend one or both heats. Any player that wins at least two games during the heats will advance to the single elimination rounds.
Players who qualify for the advancement rounds will be ranked according to the following criteria: (1) Most wins, (2) Most wins by supremacy, (3) Point ratio in all games won or lost by civilian victory (sum of all your scores / sum of all opponents scores). This list will be used to award any first-round byes necessary if the number of advancing players is less than a power of 2.
In the elimination rounds, players will follow a modified wonder selection procedure that shows evidence of eliminating the statistical first player advantage. The first player will be randomly selected then, after each set of four wonders is dealt, the second player will select which player begins the 1-2-1 draft of those wonders.
For any games ending tied on total points, the player with the most victory points on blue cards wins. In the unlikely event that this value is also tied, the game is drawn. In heats a drawn game will be recorded as a victory for both players. In the single elimination rounds, a draw will result in the first player being eliminated.
Please bring a copy of the game! There is a risk that players could be turned away due to an insufficient number of copies. Bringing a copy of the game will guarantee your spot.
