In this tile-laying game players are tasked with building an amazing, extravagant castle for King Ludwig II of Bavaria...one room at a time. You see, the King loves castles, having built Neuschwanstein (the castle that inspired the Disney theme park castles) and others, but now he's commissioned you to build the biggest, best castle ever - subject, of course, to his ever-changing whims.
Each player acts as an architect who is adding rooms to the castle he is building while also selling his services to other players.
Each player takes a turn as the Master Builder, setting the price for the weird rooms the King is demanding, trying to find the right balance of prices that keeps his pockets full while denying the choice rooms for his opponents. Rooms provide bonuses based upon connected and adjacent rooms, and all builders are vying for points based upon the King's demands and their own personal set of goals. The end results are castles of great stature and little sense.
Games will be 4-player whenever possible, reducing to 3-player contests as needed based upon attendance. All winners will advance and tie-breakers will be based on the Heats Most Wins – Points standard tiebreakers with GM specific tiebreaker listed below.
This year we will have a Quarterfinal. All who wish to advance to the Semifinal should show up for the Quarterfinal, but byes will be given to those with the best records, and the rest of Quarterfinal attendees will play to qualify for the Semifinal.
The game will be played without expansions, whether the initial release of expansions, the re-release of expansions, or the additional expansions included in the Big Box set.
The Semifinal and Final will be held on Sunday. We have had issues in past years with people that have tight schedules to make it to an airport or other connection, and therefore it is expected that people attending the Semifinal will not need to take a break from the game to check out from their hotel room.
