Everdell is a worker placement and tableau building euro style game set in an adorable setting of anthropomorphic animals. Players will collect resources over the seasons of the year to build a city of up to 15 cards.
This tournament will only feature the base game for all rounds of play. Rules will be played as stated in the rulebook and the FAQ available on BoardGameGeek. The one exception will be that all copies of the Fool may be removed from the deck if all players agree to do so at game start.
Heats will be 4-player games if possible. Table seating and seat placement will be randomized.
Set up will follow the rules of the game (except for determining the start player). Players should all be sure to maintain the game state and make friendly reminders to other players of the rules (for instance, when moving into summer, players should be sure to draw 2 cards from the meadow, hand size permitting). This includes ensuring that players clearly have gained or paid resources associated with each given action. All players are also responsible for playing at a steady rate of play to ensure that the game is completed in the two-hour event slot. Last year, many tables ran right up against time, so please be sure to play at a brisk pace!
Final scoring in this game is where minor errors are most likely to take place. Score sheets will be provided for the table to fill out. All point counts should be corroborated by another player at the table (do NOT return cards or point tokens until another player has confirmed your score for a given category). In the case of the tie, follow the tiebreakers in the rulebook followed by these tiebreakers: leftover cards in hand, fewest cards in tableau, die roll.
Advancement to the Semifinal will be determined by the Heats Most Wins – Points standard tiebreakers listed below including GM specific tiebreakers. In the case that fewer than 16 players attend the semifinals, priority will be placed on ensuring a 4-player final. Semifinal winners will advance to a 4-player Final.
HEATS: MOST WINS - POINTS (HMW-P):
- Most Wins (e.g., total in all heats entered)
- Total Points – Players earn the following pints in each heat they entered:
- 1st Place - 1,000 points
- 2nd Place - 100 points
- 3rd Place - 10 points
- 4th Place - 1 points
- All other places - 0 points
- e.g. player has a 1st, 2nd, and 4th in three heats: total points would be 1,101
- GM Specific Tie-breaker:
- Players who only have wins will be the largest average percent gap between the winner and the second-place player in their game(s) (for example, Nick wins one heat and the second-place player in his game had 82% of his score, Nicks tiebreaker score is 100-82=18)
- Players of equal points is the average percentage of winners score across non-winning games (for example, Nick places 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. In his 2nd place game, his score was 90% of the winner’s score and in his 3rd place game his score was 80% of the winner’s score, so Nick’s tiebreaker score is 85)
- Highest sum of scores in all games played
- High dice roll.
