Imperial Struggle is a game about what historians call the “Second Hundred Years’ War.” It tries to capture the whole span of this global 18th-century rivalry between Britain and France. From the beginning of the game, the stakes couldn’t be higher: in the War of the Spanish Succession, France fights to become the world’s first global superpower by uniting its peerless army with Spain’s colonial wealth… all the way to the end, where the British struggle to maintain control over the vast North American territories.
Mulligan Round: A Mulligan Round will advance winners directly to Round 2 while losers can try a second time in Round 1
Matches: Initial matching will be done randomly with consideration to avoid matching players that normally play each other outside of WBC or family. All subsequent rounds will match based on record.
Rules Set: Living Rules from GMT as of July 2020. No optional rules will be used unless agreed to by both players.
Ties: The British player wins ties. (This is in the rules, but just to be clear)
Bidding for Sides (Treaty Points): Players will first select their preferred side; both players can secretly choose a British or French Squadron counter in your hand and simultaneously reveal. If players select the same side then proceed to open bid of Treaty Points (TPs) for the selected side. Randomly determine player to start bidding. The bidding player will bid TPs provided to their opponent to play that side, including zero. The other player can either accept the bid and play the other side or bid a higher number of TPs to play the stated side. The process alternates until a player accepts the bid and plays the other side. The highest bidder plays the side, the player that accepted the bid begins with the number of TPs at the start.
Error Handling: In general, any mistake made in the rules will stand unchanged if the next action has been taken, card played, or dice rolled. Please be reasonable.
Additional Prizes: Additional prizes will be provided for the top finishers by the Publisher, GMT Games.
