Join in the fun with this gem from Reiner Knizia! Ingenious is an abstract tile-laying game. Players place double-sided colored tiles onto the hexagonal board, scoring points in six different colors for rows of matching colors. Only a player's lowest color score counts as their final score, though, so it’s important to focus on every color. The simple yet clever gameplay ensures short, tense games, and Ingenious provides an opportunity to earn laurels in just a few hours total!
The GM will adjudicate games that have not finished at the end of 55 minutes; please warn me if your game is going long. The default will be 4-player games, with 3-player games when necessary. There will be no 2-player games.
Every year there is a shortage of games. Only players who bring a copy of the game will be guaranteed a spot in the Heat. In the past, the GM has had to turn away players without games, so make sure to bring a copy if possible. And if you don't own a copy, go buy one; you won't regret it!
Rules Note: The game immediately ends if one player scores 18/Ingenious in all six colors.
This event will retain the successful format from last year of Heats: Winners Only (HWO) with a Quarterfinal round. One win in a heat will be enough to advance to the Quarterfinal. The number of players in the Quarterfinal will determine the trajectory of the single elimination rounds.
Double heat winners may receive the following advantages, depending on numbers: a bye in the Quarterfinal; seating at a three-player table in the Quarterfinal if it includes three- and four-player tables; and a separate table in the Quarterfinal from other double heat winners. These advantages will be given to the highest seeds first, but only to double winners. Seeding will be based on 1) Most wins; 2) Most second-place finishes; 3) Highest margin of victory in best heat finish; 4) High die roll. The GM will try to avoid situations where the closest second-place finish in the Quarterfinal or Semifinal lead to advancement, but if this needs to be the case it will be announced clearly before the start of any games in that round, so players can plan accordingly.
Most likely case: If there are 28-48 players in the Quarterfinal, the Semifinal will be 12 people and the Final will be three people (so that everyone in the Final receives a plaque).
Plausible case: If there are 49-64 players in the Quarterfinal, the Semifinal will be 16 people and the Final will be 4 people.
Unlikely case: If there are 17-27 players in the Quarterfinal, the Semifinal will be nine people and the Final will be three people.
Very unlikely case 1: If more than 64 winners show up for the Quarterfinal, the tiebreakers to narrow it to 64 will be: 1) Most wins; 2) Most second-place finishes; 3) Highest margin of victory in best heat finish; 4) High die roll.
Very unlikely case 2: If 16 or fewer winners show up for the Quarterfinal, the Quarterfinal will become the Semifinal.
