Virgin Queen is a multiplayer card-driven game (released by GMT in April 2012). It is a sequel to the popular WBC tournament game Here I Stand that covers all the action of the second half of the 16th Century, including the naval battle of Lepanto and the sailing of the Spanish Armada.
The Tournament Scenario published with the game is used for all games in this event.
Tournament Format:
The tournament will conform to the WBC standards for an event with two heats using the Heat Most Wins-Points standard tiebreakers with GM specific tiebreakers listed below. The GM will form an appropriate number of tables for each heat. Preference will be given toward setting up 6-player tables but will use 4-player and 5-player tables as necessary.
The number of semifinalists is determined by the number of tournament entrants, as follows:
- Less than 24 entrants: Semifinal round is skipped
- 24-35 entrants: 12 advance to Semifinal
- 36+ entrants: 18 advance to Semifinal
These Heat games are limited to three turns (Turns 3, 4, and 5). No such limit will be applied to the Semifinal and Final; they will be allowed to go the full four turns if necessary.
Advancement:
Finalists are chosen first from the Semifinal winners, then from those non-winners with the highest Semifinal point total (ties go to player with higher rank from preliminary rounds). Alternates for the Semifinal will be posted after the second opening round game. Alternates are encouraged to appear before the start of the Semifinal so we can ensure that all Semifinal games are played with a full allotment of six players. Alternates may also be chosen for the Final.
Pairings and Power Determination:
Heats: All table assignments are determined at random (though Team Tournament teammates and family members will be separated). Players choose powers in the numerical order assigned to them during the random draw.
Semifinal: Table assignments are done according to rank from Heats (distributing the highest ranked players to different tables). Highest ranked players get first choice of power at their table.
Final: Semifinal winners get first choice of power (in order of Semifinal point total, ties going to player with highest rank from Heats).
Additional Prizes: Publisher GMT Games will provide merchandise Certificates to the Plaque winners.
HEATS: MOST WINS - POINTS (HMW-P):
- Most Wins (e.g., total in all heats entered)
- Total Points – Players earn the following pints in each heat they entered:
- 1st Place - 1,000 points
- 2nd Place - 100 points
- 3rd Place - 10 points
- 4th Place - 1 points
- All other places - 0 points
- e.g. player has a 1st, 2nd, and 4th in three heats: total points would be 1,101
- GM Specific Tie-breakers:
- Total VP earned in all heats played
- Average Finish in all heats played
- Latest average power selection in all heats entered
- High dice roll.
