Welcome to ancient Egypt, land of the pyramids

Amun-Re is an auction game for 3-5 players by Reiner Knizia. In the game, players compete in auctions for Egyptian provinces and then use actions to improve their provinces with farms and pyramids. Once per round, players sacrifice to Amun-Re with the hope of either gaining rewards for their generosity or robbing the Pharaoh’s coffers. Halfway through the game (3 rounds), provinces are swept away, only to be fought over again in the New Kingdom (3 more rounds). Scoring occurs after the third and sixth rounds. Players must make careful bids, use cards wisely, and build pyramids efficiently to win.

Number of players per game:

  • 5 (first choice)
  • 4 (second choice)
  • 3 (only if necessary)

Semifinal

Advancement to the Semifinal is based on the Heats Most Wins - Points Standard Tie-Breakers listed below.

All winners will advance unless more than 25 winners appear for the Semifinal.

If the total field is 50+ participants, then the Semifinal field will be filled to 25 using the Standard Tiebreaker. Five 5-player games will be held.

If the total field is 40-49 participants or there are not enough people to fill to 25, then the Semifinal will be 20 people, Four 5-player games. Winners and best 2nd place (by % of the winners score) will advance to the Final.

If the total field is 30-39 participants or there are not enough people to fill to 20, then the Semifinal will be 15 people, three 5-player games will be held. Winners and two best 2nd places (by % of the winners score) will advance to the Final.

If the total field is 24-29 participants or there are not enough people to fill to 15, then the Semifinal will be limited to the top 12. Three 4-player games will be held. Winners and two best 2nd places (by % of the winners score) will advance to the Final.

If the total field is 20-23 participants or there are not enough people to fill to 12, then the Semifinal will be limited to the top 10. Two 5-player games will be held. Winners and runners-up will advance to the Final.

If the total field is 16-19 participants or there are not enough people to fill to 10, then the Semifinal will be limited to the top eight. Two 4-player games will be held. Winners and runners-up will advance to the Final.

If the total field is less than 16 participants or there is not enough people to fill to eight, then the top five will proceed directly to the Final to be held during the Semifinal time slot.

In the event of a tie across all in game tiebreakers, the standings from the preliminary rounds will break the tie.

In cases where we end up with tables of unequal player count in the SF (after all winners are seated and we are unable to make the tables even with alternates), the player count at each table will be randomly determined.

Final

If there are five Finalists and one cannot attend the scheduled Final, a 4-player game among the remaining Finalists will be held.

If there are four Finalists and one (or more) cannot attend the scheduled Final, the GM will attempt to contact runners-up (in order of proximity to first place) from the Semifinal games to ensure a 4-player Final. If no runners-up can be found, a 3-player final will be held.

Seating for the Semifinal will be in rank order seeding with the highest ranked player at table 1, followed by the second highest player at table 2 and continuing until the tables are full.

Rule Modifications & Clarifications:

Game Setup:

  • Randomly determine seat order and start player
  • In any potential 4-player (or 3-player) games (Heats or Semifinal), each individual game will draw and expose the three (or six) unused provinces during setup. This will be done to reduce luck of the draw impacting strategies. Regardless of the exposed provinces, there will be no other changes in game play and all power cards will be considered playable as designed
  • ,/p>

Items in both Phase 3 and Phase 5 should always be performed in the same order: cards, farmers, and then bricks.

    • When drawing power cards during the purchasing phase (Phase 3) or as a reward during the sacrifice (Phase 5), each player must state in advance how many cards they will draw. Players are allowed to look at their cards before deciding how many farmers and/or bricks to purchase/receive
    • The deck should be reshuffled as soon as it is emptied. Don’t forget to place bonus cards for provinces under the corresponding province card(s) during Phase 1
    • Power cards may not be sacrificed as if they were cash. Players may only use money cards and the “sacrifice correction” power card during Phase 4
    • Single Game Tiebreakers – In Heats, all tied players share the win. In Semifinal/Final, tiebreakers are as follows:
      1. Number of Pyramids
      2. Number of Bricks
      3. Total number of Temples + Farmers
      4. Gold
      5. Reverse final turn order
    • Deal making/negotiating is prohibited. Players may neither agree in advance to “share” the bonus points for pyramid-building, nor to make/change particular sacrifices, etc., nor engage in other forms of collusion/coercion. If a player(s) is found to be attempting to coerce another player, they will be disqualified from advancing to the next round regardless of game outcome. As this may be a subjective policy, the GM and Assistant GM's must unanimously agree such an infraction warrants disqualification
    • Player Responsibilities
      • Table talk should be kept to a minimum
      • As Amun-Re can push against our two hour time limit, please be mindful of the pace of play, and, if necessary, politely push for faster play to keep the game on track so it finishes on time. If needed, call over the GM

HEATS: MOST WINS - POINTS (HMW-P):

    1. Most Wins (e.g., total in all heats entered)
    2. Total Points – Players earn the following pints in each heat they entered:
      • 1st Place - 1,000 points
      • 2nd Place - 100 points
      • 3rd Place - 10 points
      • 4th Place - 1 points
      • All other places - 0 points
      • e.g. player has a 1st, 2nd, and 4th in three heats: total points would be 1,101
    3. GM Specific Tie-breaker: None specified
    4. High dice roll.
