Heat: Pedal to the Metal is a new take on the old genre of racing games, depicting Formula 1 racing in the early 1960s. Here, your car’s performance, and wear, is represented by a deck of cards, which is supplemented by three “option” cards drafted before the race. Managing your car’s Heat is a core part of the game, using your available heat to advance and then dealing with the consequences.

There is also a catch-up mechanism (“adrenaline”), as well as highly important slip-streaming of other cars, such that the results are often not set in stone until the last corner is cleared.

Heats with be 5-player games. If less than 5 players are available for a table, legends will be used to fill the grid to five players, with suitable “pro” performance. In both rounds, all base options and weather conditions will be in effect. Please familiarize yourself with garage upgrade cards before the tournament begins. The garage upgrade cards will be drafted using a two round snake draft amount 2N+3 cards (N=number of players), then each player discards one card to keep only 3 upgrade cards. Also, the 4-wheel drive “+++” upgrade card will be banned.

The game will be played using the advanced speed declaration method with both the gear shift and movement cards being decided and declared at the same time.

To encourage faster play, each player will be able to view their own discard pile during the game. Discard piles are not open information to all players, however, everyone can look at the cards in their own private discard pile, before placing their gear shift cards. If the entire table decides they wish to play with fully closed discard piles that is allowed. However, this decision must be made before the game begins.

The USA map will be used for the first Heat. The France map will be used for the second Heat.

Up to 36 players will advance to the Semifinal with 6-player tables. Based on the number of heat winners that show up for the Semifinal, alternates will be taken to reach the next multiple of six. Alternates will be chosen based on the Heats Most Wins – Points standard tiebreakers listed below. If there is only one Semifinal table, that will be considered the Final. Otherwise the Final will consist of the top finishers from each of the Semifinal tables.
