GM Contact:alexandertgregorio@gmail.com
Event Website:N/A

Rounds:Mulligan, 2 Rounds, Quarterfinal, Semifinal, Final
Round Length:6 Hours
Advancement:Quarterfinal 8, Semifinal 4, Final 2
Prize Level:5

The Single elimination with Mulligan format ensures everyone has an opportunity to play twice while still getting to a tournament winner in a timely fashion. The Mulligan allows folks to get the rust off their POG game while ensuring that late arrivals can join the tournament in Round 1 with just as good a chance to win it all. After Round 1, the event will switch to traditional single elimination; play will continue for as many rounds as necessary to create a single undefeated player. Eliminators will be solicited from the POG faithful to fill the field but should none be forthcoming, byes will be issued to past champions in order of vintage. No player may be offered more than one bye. Should no past champion be available to take a bye, a random player in that round will be offered the bye.

The campaign games will be played using the Historical Scenario. Draws will count as an Allied win; players should bid accordingly. Pairings will be made randomly, with exceptions made in the mulligan and first round for family members and teammates.

Learning Games

Players who wish to learn Paths of Glory may choose to play a learning game. Such new players will be matched against consenting experienced players (determined by (1) Champions in order of vintage, (2) by the previous year’s laurelists, (3) and then as determined in the GM’s discretion). The experienced player will receive the win for tournament purposes (which shall count for purposes of future byes) and the new player will receive coaching in the game from a veteran opponent.

The GM team encourages new players interested in learning Paths of Glory to partake using this option!

Bidding for Sides:

Each player rolls a die. The Player with high die declares a side he wishes to play and a positive number of Victory Points they will cede the opposing player - any whole number including a bid of zero. The opposing player either accepts the bid (and thus plays the other side) or bids a higher Victory Point number to play the same side. Bidding ends when one player accepts the opposing bid. At the end of the game, the final Victory Point total is adjusted by the ceded points.

Schedule:

Notification will be given 30 minutes and then 15 minutes prior to the end of each round. Slow play will be a factor should a game need to be adjudicated. The schedule is continuous starting with Round 1.

Tournament Officials:

The assistant GM’s will be Michael Dauer and Tom Dreuding

Tournament Rules:

Game Version: We will use the "Deluxe Edition" POG Rules. (Unchanged since 2022.) These rules are freely available at GMT Games.

Scenario: The Historical Scenario will be used by default. In the Mulligan and the First Round, players will be able to choose whether they wish to play (i) The Great War scenario (a/k/a the 10-Turn Scenario), (ii) the Historical Scenario, or (iii) either scenario. Players will be matched up based on scenario preference, with the Historical Scenario will be the default in the event of odd player counts.

After the Mulligan and the First Round, players will be randomly matched and may choose to use either The Great War Scenario or the Historical Scenario as mutually agreed to by opponents, provided that the Historical Scenario shall be the default. The Final will be the Historical Scenario.

Card Tracking: Recording or reviewing the cards placed into the discard pile in prior turns is prohibited unless agreed to beforehand. Players may refer to previously played cards which have been removed from play.

Supply Warnings: Unless both players agree otherwise, supply warnings are in effect.

Optional Rules: Players may introduce any other rules they wish as long as they both agree beforehand, inform the GM, and it does not conflict with any other tournament parameter, including round duration or scheduling.

Additional Prizes: Additional Prizes will be provided by the publisher, GMT Games.
