Splendor Duel is a two-player only standalone game based on Splendor that retains some of the main gameplay mechanisms of that design, while being a bit more complex, dynamic, interactive, rich, tense, and mean. Players will acquire gems from a shared grid board and use those gems to purchase cards. Players can win the game in one of three ways: reaching 20 points, reaching 10 points in a single color, or acquiring 10 crowns.
This event will have Heats, followed by continuous Single Elimination Rounds. During each Heat all players will play two games and a player may play in one or both Heats. Any player that wins at least two games during the Heats will advance to the Single Elimination Rounds. Throughout the heats, family members will be separated unless it is impossible to avoid.
Prior to the Single Elimination Rounds, all advancing players will be ranked according to the following formula:
- Most Wins
- Average Margin of Victory
- Average Margin of Defeat
- High Die Roll
Margin of victory/defeat will be calculated by assigning the victorious player a score of 20, and the defeated player the fraction of their closest victory condition at game end multiplied by 20, e.g. a defeated player who ends the game with 13 points, 7 single-color points, and 5 crowns will be assigned a score of 14 (7/10 x 20 = 14).
This formula will be used to award any byes necessary if the number of advancing players is less than a power of 2. The players will be seeded into the Single Elimination bracket according to this ranking.
