Over 20 years of Ticket to Ride at WBC

Ticket to Ride is a series of stand-alone railroad building games designed by Alan R. Moon and published by Days of Wonder. The rules are easy to learn and each game is tight with delightful tension over how to build in order to connect your cities.

Tournament Rules:

We play 4-player games, with 3-player games as needed.

The default game is USA 1910 Mega-Game. We also offer the base game during the heats for those who prefer. Due to previous low player volume, the Europe version will not be offered this year. We randomly issue players seating/turn order cards as they check in. Before each game, check that you have exactly 45 trains in your color. The number of train cars, train cards and destination tickets you have is public knowledge.

If two or more players tie in a game the tie-breakers will be:

  1. Winner of the longest train award (if a 3rd player has the longest next tie breaker)
  2. Most tickets made
  3. Ticket score
  4. Route score
  5. later turn order

The game winner is responsible for turning in the score sheet, with the information filled in, at the end of each Heat.

Quarterfinals:

Advancement to the Quarterfinal will be determined by the Heats Most Wins - Timing standard tie-breakers listed below.

The Quarterfinal will be played with 1910 Mega. Sixty-four players advance to the Quarterfinal round. If fewer than 64 show up, byes into the Semifinal will be awarded to players with the best qualifying points in the Heats to make the numbers come out even, perhaps with the help of a few 3-player games. If more than 64 show up, the 64 with the best qualifying records play in the Quarterfinal.

Players are seeded to tables in the Quarterfinal based on qualifying record.

Qualifying record is determined using the Heats Most Wins - Timing. Last year exactly 64 winners signed in for the Quarterfinal, so all got to play even those ranked higher than 100. If you win a heat always show up at the Quarterfinal. Only players that have won a game can advance to the Quarterfinal.

Semifinal and Final:

The Semifinal and Final will use the Ticket to Ride USA 1910 Mega-Game. The second-place players will play a consolation game during the final time slot to determine 5th and 6th place.

The winners of the Semifinal will advance to the Final using the Ticket to Ride USA 1910 Mega-Game.

HEATS: MOST WINS - TIMING (HMW-T):

  1. Most Wins (e.g., total in all heats entered)
  2. First Win
    • First Heat played
    • Second Heat played
    • Third Heat played
    • Fourth Heat played
  3. Fewest Heats
  4. Most Second Places
  5. Fewest total points behind first place in second place finishes. Not playing in a heat counts as an N/A for this criteria, not 0 points
  6. Fewest total points behind first place in all finishes. Not playing in a heat counts as an N/A for this criteria, not 0 points
  7. Highest total points ahead of second place
  8. High dice roll.
