WBC Auction Tournament Format
1) The tournament will be played with all the expanded rules
(from the small six-page, half-sized rulebook).
2) If the number of entrants in a heat is not divisible by four,
the GM will randomly determine the players at three-player boards.
3) A Mulligan round will be held Tuesday night at 6 PM. The winners
(only) of the Mulligan round boards will advance to the Wednesday
4 PM semifinals.
4) The winners of each three- or four-person board in the preliminary
round (Wednesday 3 PM) will advance to the semifinals.
5) The top scoring runners-up at the four-player boards will
advance to bring the number of semi-finalists up to a multiple
of 4.
6) The winner of each semifinal board will advance to the finals,
again along with the top scoring runners-up to bring the number
of finalists up to four.
7) The "enforced rainbow" rule will be used in all
rounds. If any player is initially dealt three or more cards
of a set, they must
discard the excess cards (face down) and draw replacements from
the deck. The deck will then be reshuffled.
Rules Clarifications
1) After winning an auction, you may not sell the item you just
bought. However, when using a Buyer's card, a player may buy
an item which was just sold. When buying items using the Special
Value Warehouse, Dealer, Gallery and Collector Deal cards, the
purchases must be paid for before the seller is paid for the
item he was originally selling from his hand.
2) You may use one Buyer's card after winning an auction to buy
up to three items from the board. However, you may not use two
Buyer's cards to purchase additional items at that time.
3) When bidding for an item during an auction, a player may pass
during a round and then reenter the bidding at a later time,
so long as bidding has not been ended for the item by everyone
passing.
4) The rich collector pays full set value for natural sets. A
buyer's card may not be used as a wild card to complete a set
for the rich collector.
5) You may not inherit a card which the rich collector has bought.
It is placed on the rich collector's pile and another card is
inherited.
6) The number of cards you hold in your hand at any time is public
knowledge. The amount of cash you have is not.
