Lions, Tigers and Dinosaurs ...
oh my
Seventeen explorers, some with more courage than wisdom, embarked
onto the lost world plateau in search of adventure. Players
were assembled into five groups to compete in a qualifying round,
from which eight players advanced to two semifinal matches.
Justin Broessel earned the distinction of finding the most
escape items (3) without enough victory points to win (only 14).
Perhaps he should have auctioned off escape items to the highest
bidder.
Returning champion Ken Whitestall and Lauren Vessey found
no escape items despite amassing 27 and 28 victory points respectively
(much more about Lauren later).
The five game winners, David Brooks, Abby Cocke, Rob Novolis,
John Poniske, and Steve Dickson, were joined by runners up Katherine
Hitchings, Tim Hitchings, and Lauren Vessey to qualify for the
semifinals.
The semifinals saw the introduction of six new adventures,
designed by the gamemaster: "Sticky Thicket", "Marsh",
"Mountain", "Cavern", "Hidden River",
and "Velociraptor Valley". The GM's lack of artistic
talent was ably compensated for by the drawings of Abby Cocke,
John Poniske and Lauren Vessey.
The velociraptor's ferociousness was obscured by the less
than fearsome miniature hen, bunny, and penguin representing
her on the boards. The popular favorite new adventure was the
Sticky Thicket, if only because of its name. The only player
to brave the Hidden River was promptly thrown out by a surprisingly
hostile apatasaurus.
In her semifinal match, Lauren Vessey thrice failed to escape
via the Pinnacle Adventure, allowing John Poniske the win.
Although he ultimately missed the finals, Rob Novolis amassed
more victory points after losing more of his tools than he had
when he was fully equipped. So much for strategy!
The final match was a marathon slugfest in which Lauren Vessey
outlasted Steve Dickson, David Brooks, and John Poniske to escape
the plateau with 33 victory points at the end of the Indian Caves
Adventure.
The GM invites the player who left an adventure chart in the
game room back next year to claim it.
DINOSAURS OF THE LOST WORLD JR. drew only nine pint
size adventurers to the lost plateau but fun was had by all nonetheless.
The survivors of the final board were:
1st. Erika Kirchner
2nd. Joseph Hein
3rd. Alex Henning
4th. Chrissy Frattali
