a better whodunit ...
31 Novice monks joined the Monastery this year all attempting
to discover "Who Killed Brother Adelmo" and be named
the Abbey's Chief Investigator. After two qualifying rounds,
eight monks were elevated to the status of Brother and matched
wits in the semi-final round.
The two semi-final matches were hard fought, but John Kratz
and David Burkey from table 1 along with James Kendrick and Brandon
Bernard from table 2 moved into the final round.
Unlike 1993, when the final match took over two hours to complete,
this year's final was surprisingly quick. There were no revelations
made before the first Mass, but just before the Mass bell rang,
Brother David used a Prophecy Scriptorium card to sort the top
four event cards in the order of his choosing. The other three
monks implored him not to put the Gregorian Fervor card on top
in hopes that they would not have to chant soon.
Soon after the second Mass, Brother Brandon visited the library
where he gained access to the "Secret Journal of the Abbot",
allowing him to look at one suspect card from each other player
and then randomly send them back to different players. As events
would soon make clear, the knowledge he acquired would not prove
very useful.
Shortly thereafter, Father John, thinking he had gained some
insight, visited the Chapter Hall to make a revelation that the
murderer was a Father.
However, it wasn't to be. Brother David overheard Father John
tell James that he had not seen Templar Brothers. This knowledge
made Brother David certain because he knew that all players
had already accounted for all the brothers - except for one.
Brother David immediately used a special "Map of the Abbey"
card to go directly to the Chapter Hall and make the accusation
that the murderer was Brother Harold!
The new Chief Investigator of the Abbey is David Burkey.
