The Real Debut
The debut of this event last year drew well enough to
qualify for the Century despite being a last-minute replacement
event that did not even get listed in the program. The parting
words of the After Action Report was a prediction that attendance
would sky rocket in 2007. What a prognosticator! T&T attendance
nearly tripled this year and reached triple digits -- a rarified
atmosphere usually reserved for late night lightfare or four-heat
headcounters. While Euro attendance was generally up across the
board this year, this was the single biggest surprise of the
year.
The semi-final round and two preliminary heats narrowed the
field of 104 down to the final four; David Meyaard, Anne Norton,
Tom DeMarco, and Andy Latto. David was chosen the first
player and the others were seated clockwise from him in that
order.
David scored first and placed houses in Mannheim and Carlsruhe.
Anne scored next and placed houses in Nurnberg, Budweis, and
Linz.
Tom scored next and placed houses in Ulm and Augsburg.
Andy scored next and placed houses in Lodz, Pilsen, and Regensburg.
David scored next and placed houses in Freiburg, Sigmaringen,
Ulm, and Kempten, which earned him the 3 Purple bonus tile.
Tom scored next and placed houses in Freiburg, Sigmaringen, Zurich,
and Kempten.
Andy scored next and placed houses in Mannheim and Carlsruhe.
Anne scored next and placed houses in Mannheim, Lodz, Pilsen,
and Wurzburg.
David scored next and placed houses in Innsbruck, Basel, and
Augsburg.
Andy scored next and placed houses in Budweis, Linz, and Passau.
Tom scored next and placed houses in Carlsruhe, Stuttgart, Innsbruck,
and Ingolstadt, which earned him the 3 Green bonus tile.
Anne scored next and placed houses in Freiburg, Sigmaringen,
and Basel.
David scored next and placed houses in Lodz, Pilsen, Salzburg,
and Regensburg, which earned him the 6 All Colors bonus tile.
Tom scored next and placed houses in Wurzburg, Nurnberg, Regensburg,
Munchen, and Nassau, which earned him the 5 German bonus tile.
Andy scored next and placed houses in Freiberg, Ulm, Sigmaringen,
Zurich, Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Kempten, which earned him the
4 Red and the 5 All Colors bonus tiles.
David scored next and placed houses in Stuttgart, Budweis, Linz,
and Ingolstadt, which earned him the 3 Red and the 2 Green bonus
tiles.
Anne scored next and placed houses in Carlsruhe, Stuttgart, Zurich,
Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Kempten, which earned her the 3 Blue
and the 4 All Colors bonus tiles.
Tom scored next and placed houses in Lodz, Pilsen, and Salzburg,
which earned him the 3 All Colors bonus tile.
At this time there was much speculation and discussion around
the table about who would acquire their last carriage first and
end the game. Andy, who was the last player, ended the
game by picking his last carriage and placing houses in Stuttgart
and Wurzburg, which earned him the 1 Green and the 1 End Game
bonus tiles.
After each player added their carriage points and bonus tile
points and subtracted the number of houses they had remaining,
the winner was Andy with 26 points, followed by David with 23
and Anne and Tom with 18 each.
