Pirates on the High Seas ...
AAARRHH!! Avast all ye sea dogs. We had a record voyage agin
this year and joined the bigtime with more than 100 cutthroats
- 101 to be exact. Makes you want to break out in song ... "100
Pirates on the Bounding Main, Hang one & cut 'em down, 99
Pirates on the Bounding Main ... or something to that effect.
This year's voyage was fraught with perils galore. 45 voyages
set sail but sea faring MEN were in short supply. MY BEAUTIFUL
WENCHES PUT YE TO SHAME AGIN!!! 26 gals accounted for 161 prizes
for a 6.19 average. You 75 low-life curs garnered just 378, for
a 5.04 average. Miserable dogs ... ye be a disgrace to mankind!
The pirate dart-gun duel went well until a gun malfunctioned.
Days of Wonder never tested this version of their game! Alexandria
Henning won the 1st heat, Sarah Vasilakos the second, Ben Gardner
the third, and Ben Collinson the fourth. Scurvy dogs ... ya outnumber
the wenches 3:1 and only manage a draw in the duels. Methinks
we got the wrong hands in the galley. Thems that tried to cheat
by turning before commanded were set adrift by proxy vote.
Back to this here game ... the first heat winners were: RJ
Gleaton, Jason Fisher, Alexandra Henning, James Dougherty, Ben
Collinson, Ruth Evinger, Verity Hitchings, Phillip Livingston,
Katie Elliott, John, Forrest and Stephany Speck, David Meyard,
Nico Parauda, Derek Miller, and John Elliott. That Speck crew
came looking for blood!
The best of the second heat were: Gus Collars, Robert Russo,
Carol Haney, Ken Horan, Barrett Straub, Craig Reece, Andrew Sherwood,
Sarah Vasilakos, Josh Arndt and Henry Pfeiffer.
A hurricane must have hit the third heat. Voyages were few
and far between. Brad Sherwood, Jodi Folk, Ben Gardner, Verity
Hitchings [2] and Brandon Bernard managed to come back winners.
The fourth heat standouts were: Jason Fisher [2], Mark Love,
John Speck [2], RJ Gleaton [2], Faith Wobbeking, Ben Collinson
[2], Alexandra Henning [2], and David Meyard [2]. Only Mark and
Faith broke through for their first win while the rest were taken
by previous winners. Persistence pays off while limiting the
pool of playoff players. Maybe there's hope for this crew yet.
In the semi-finals Carol Haney, defending champ Brandon Bernard,
Katie Elliott, Josh Arndt and young RJ Gleaton by a single point
made the Final. It's a green crew - only Brandon has sailed these
waters before. But I like the cut of the jib of that cabin boy.
He's got true grit - and I don't mean John Wayne.
In the Final: RJ plundered all by himself the first five turns
to jump to a big lead while the others kept slugging it out for
his scraps. RJ had no cards or parrot. Brandon got sunk the first
six turns, coming close to former champ Tom Pavy's infamous record
of sinking eight times in a Final. Katie spent most of her time
at Pirate's Cove repairing her ship. Methinks she's got an eye
for the carpenter. Carol did a little better but Josh gathered
up several point cards. When the smoke cleared, RJ had 42, and
Josh played eight points to his 33 to come up just one short.
Josh would have blown RJ out of the water in a sudden death shootout,
but ifs and buts ain't worth nothin' on the bounding main. I
ask ya - have you ever seen a finer specimen of manhood than
this cutthroat?
Only a few CHAINS-OF-SHAME were awarded. Notably first mate
Jason Fisher was the first two-time mutineer! Carol Haney, my
ADVENTURER PIR'ETTE also WALKED DA PLANK!
NEW HONOR: All bloodthirsty pirates get to SIGN DA
Articles! Those with 10 prizes: Verity Hitchings, Brad Sherwood,
Josh Arndt; 11: Craig Reece, Ben Collinson; 12: Brian Sherwood,
Carol Haney, Courtney Arndt, James Miller, Brandon Bernard, and
RJ Gleaton. My Third Mate: Barrett Straub [15]; Second Mate:
Andrew Sherwood [16]; and, First Mate with 17 prizes: Sarah Vasilakos.
Polly sez: Better Luck next voyage.

Where's Pfieffer when you need 'em?
Dang lawyers!
Cap'n Larry is going to sue for copyright infringement.
Everybody wants to horn in on the act.

Cap'n Larry hangs the chains of shame
on mutineer Carol Haney
as finalist crew members Katie Elliott,
RJ,
"one-eye" Bernard and Joshua Arndt approve.
