The ladies are much in evidence at
the colosseum today. Nothing like a fender bender to start the
day. |
Must be something about collisions
that draws women drivers to the colosseum ... |
|
|
It's SRO when Brian Conlon moves.
Nobody sits at the Circus. It's always a thrill a minute. |
Francis Czawlytko, Brian Conlon, Rolinda
Collinson, Evan Hitchings and Joe Maiz are among the usual suspects. |
blood
amongst the kisses ...
A sweet aspect of John Jacoby's Circus Maximus event is
that he rewards the first driver into each turn with a Hershey's
Kiss. The candies replace the dolphins which were upturned in
the Roman Colosseum to record the number of laps run.
The 2012 Surfing Championships ...
2011 had been the tamest race anyone could remember with a
female champion and virtually everyone finishing intact, more
or less. 2012 would be a very different story. The Rabbits (Lissa
Rennert) and Amish Buggy (Michael Lind) were light chariots.
The other ten finalists drove heavies and eyed the other two
like so many wolves counting sheep. Despite the obvious menu
choices, events transpired such that by Turn 3 the strategy of
the race was determined. The Rabbits led and were uncatchable.
The Amish, true to their calling, waited peaceably and safely
behind the pack. Two heavies with the slowest Team Speed, the
Triceratops (2005 champ John Tighe Jr ) and the Skeletons (Doug
Galullo), held back, biding their time and waiting for their
chance. The others sped on, attacking each other and reducing
their chances of ever catching the Rabbits.
On Turn 7, the Amish caught the waiting heavies napping and
took off, leaving them far behind. By Turn 8, the mayhem was
assured as the Rabbits lapped the field and began the process
of tiptoeing through the minefield of the pack. The Camels driven
by defending champ Angela Collinson were first to go, kissing
the wall and ending her day. The Skunks (John Tighe Sr) flipped
in the turn, and both a Dinosaur (Brian Conlon) and a Pink Elephant
(Andrew Sinigaglio) steed died. 21 horse and nine Wheel hits
had been delivered during the blood lust.
By Turn 11, the bunnies were down to 1 remaining endurance
from continuous evasion. In rapid succession a Rabbit, an elephant
and a black horse (Frank Sinigaglio) were carted off to the butchers.
As the feeding frenzy continued, a Triceratops, a Reindeer from
Santa's sleigh (Gino Sinigaglio) and a Tiger (two-time champ
Josh Githens) joined the funeral procession. Josh, affectionately
dubbed Chief Dull Knife from previous races in which he was unable
to cut away a dead mount gleefully rid himself of the carcass
in one try only to have two more of his Tigers cut down. Amidst
all this, the leading Rabbit flipped.
In the last turn the Rabbit drivers was being dragged (speed
17) and the Amish were a distant second (speed 20), with Green
(Dan Dolan, Jr) third (speed 11). Green attacked the Amish wheels
as they flew by, with both carts taking damage and flipping.
The Amish driver was five away from the finish line with three
body parts left, as the Rabbit driver rolled a 6 and died before
being dragged over the line. The dragged Amish driver rolled
a 1 and surfed over the line with one body hit remaining.

Uh oh ... the Sinigaglio's and Dolans
are here ... Jake will have his hands full today. |
The prizes keep getting cooler all
the time. Jake's been at the flea markets again. |
