Women reign supreme again

There were 9 charioteers in the final. Most notable was last year’s champion, Jennifer Brown, who won all 4 of her heats. Winning 1 heat got her into the semis, 2 got her a buy into the finals, 3 got her the selection of her start lane, and 4 got 5 extra endurance. This was something Jennifer needed since winning 4 heats got the attention of all of the other 8 drivers & attached a large target on her chariot.

There were 2 lights, 1 medium & 6 heavies at the start. The attacks were incredibly inept. It took until the 4th turn for the heavies to get above 3 hits on the wheel of the Cthulhu drawn light chariot of Jennifer. When she rolled a 2 on the wheel check, the chariot flipped. The bears wanted to make sure that Cthulhu was truly dead & ran down the running driver. The heavies were so inept that Barry Smith attacked only light chariots & managed to put 5 hits on his own chariot while doing 3 damage on the lights.

Rolinda Collinson driving a medium purple cow chariot easily won since most of the heavies were occupied with chasing down Cthulhu. John Boisvert in the pink light finished 2nd for the same reason.

The wildest fight came for the coveted 6th place sand plaque. Jim Fardette was dragged within a few squares of the finish with 5 body points. Rich Curtin trampled him in order to have any chance of getting the sand plaque. Oops, He only did 2 hits on Jim. (I told you the attacks of the heavies were inept.) As Rich was bemoaning the softness of his Rhino’s hooves, Jim rolled 3 hits on his own body, killing himself as he crossed the finish line, giving 6th place to the shocked Rich. A steward’s inquiry resulted in the finding that the Styrofoam hubcap protectors on the heavy chariots had inadvertently been left on, which resulted in the abysmal damage results from the heavy chariot attacks.
