Ace Burch Continues His Mastery of the Skies!

Seven Springs was alive with Dogfighting again with the 2018 Ace of Aces tournament.

The growth leveled out this year due to the first circus starting at noon Saturday but several new pilots were welcomed, trained by the Aces and added to the rolls. Using the same format as previous years. Each of the four heats, dubbed Flying Circuses, provided a target rich environment for dogfights between players, allowing opportunities for players to qualify for the Final Circus. The six top qualifiers became the finalists and then flew a round robin series of dogfights at the Final Circus to determine this year's winner.

Special thanks again to the Dice Loving Canucks, the Greensboro Greenspielers and the Greenville Mafia for showing up en masse. Each Flying Circus had a good turnout with pilots logging flights well past the scheduled time allotted for each heat.

The ability to earn the distinction of Ace Pilot status was continued in 2018. In order to become an Ace Pilot a player must score five victories (shoot downs) against five different players. There were four players that earned the honor of being an Ace Pilot: Bill Burch, Richard Irving, Doug Porterfield and Bill Burtless. Bill “Bulletsponge” Burtless finally lost his dominance over the Bulletsponge Award with new Ada Miller taking the honors absorbing 61 shots as compared to 51 shots given.

The Final Circus consisted of past champion Bill Burch along with Melody Loder, Bruce Young, Johnathan Miller and Tim Rogers. The final dogfights were furious; however, past Champion Bill Burch continued his air superiority when Bill Burtless turned into his blazing machine guns to seal the win. Bill Burch remains Champion, followed by Bill “ Bulletsponge” Burtless (2nd), Bruce Young (3rd), Melody Loder (4th), Johnathan Miller (5th) and Tim Rogers (6th).
