Just like every year, Galaxy Trucker went off with a bang (of competitor's ships exploding). Turnout was about even with the year before, with good turnout in heat 1, exceptional turnout in heat 2, and no one showing in heat 3. Weirdly heats 2+3 were back to back, so if we can separate them we may get a few more truckers.
The final was competitive, with the typical mix of excellent play and catastrophic failure trucker aficionados can appreciate. The first phase had a rough roads of explosive batteries, with both predators and commandos showing in the revealed cards.
A hazardous sector made an appearance, and everyone but Dylan wisely made use of their hyperspace boosters to avoid a large smuggler. But in the end, a slaver on the last card made everyone but Daron give up. Dylan grabbed an early lead, with Karl close behind.
In phase 2, Somersault! increased the difficulty. Felicia made a building mistake, leading to half her ship falling off as she pulled into space. Daron was forced to retire after a predator commando, but the round was low scoring (everyone scored between 10 and 2). Karl takes the lead, with a 2 dollar edge over Dylan.
Phase 3 brought a Panic! to the party, but the phase was characterized by loads of available cargo. Dylan made excellent use of a hyperspace to avoid a combat zone he would have lost every row on. Felicia was then forced to give up after a panic. Dylan and Karl duked it out to the end, but Karl took the victory by nearly 20 dollars, continuing his streak of excellence. |
