In 2018, 79 players gathered to play Roll for the Galaxy. In the first heat, there were 8 tables (32 players). In the second heat, there were 12 tables (51 players). In the third heat, there were 10 tables (39 players). In the final heat, there were again 12 tables (46 players).
One player (former Champion Ricky Boyes) won 4 heats. Eric Alexopoulos and Luke Koleszar each won 3 heats. Eight players won 2 heats, including last year’s champion, Andrew Freeman, and former Champion Mason Murray. Seventeen players won 1 heat, with Evan Battilana racking up 3 seconds to go with his first. Mason Rouser was the strongest non-advancing player with 4 second-place finishes.
Unfortunately, Ricky Boyes had a conflict, and so was unable to participate in the semi-finals. Our semifinals tables were:
- Table 1: Andrew Freeman (47), Iain McGraw (40), Ken Samuel (29), and Eric W. Guttag (28)
- Table 2: Eric Alexopoulos (47), Wayne Saunders (40), Alex Anderson (28), and Lynn Chalfoun (28)
- Table 3: Eric Brosius (55), Anthony Lainesse, (43), Pascale Lafreniere (39), and Loc Nguyen (30)
- Table 4: Evan Battilana (34), Luke Koleszar (31), Greg Thatcher (28), and Mason Murray (25)
At the final table, it was a hard-fought battle, but eventually Andrew Freeman (41) edged out Eric Alexopoulos (40) for the win, with Evan Battilana (32) taking third, and Eric Brosius (25) at fourth. Luke Koleszar (5th) and Iain McGraw (6th) rounded out the laurels. |
