Tim Tu’s Separatist Colony Is The Most Successful In The Galaxy

Here’s the report from Galactic headquarters in the 12th running of WBC’s Race for the Galaxy (RFG) tournament:

The 2019 WBC RFG tournament began on Monday and finished on Friday with a total of 70 enthusiastic Galactic adventurers (aka participants) trying to be the best in the Race for the Galaxy while surviving “the gathering storm” clouds, aka a torrential downpour just prior to Heat 4 on Friday in Round 1. Amongst those 70 participants was our defending champion from last year, Nicholas Alexandro, along with two other finalists from last year, Matthew Thiessen, and two-time champion, Ricky Boyes.

Unlike last year’s four back-to-back-to-back-to-back heats in Round 1, the GM/assistant GM) were grateful to have only Heats 1 and 2 in Round 1 on morning Monday, with concluding Heats 3 and 4 of Round 1 being Friday afternoon. After that mighty thunderstorm just prior to Heat 4, the skies overhead cleared at First Tracks, Pool Side as 16 mighty and formidable Galactic adventurers survived the “shock and awe” of Round 1 to make it to the semifinals, dethroning last year’s defending champion, Nicholas Alexandro, as well as eliminating one of last year’s finalists, Ricky Boyes: Daniel Smith (a semi-finalist from last year); Michael Thiessen (a semi-finalist from last year); Winton Lemoine (a semi-finalist from last year); Andrew Freeman (our youngest participant and a semifinalist from last year); Nicholas Vilagi; Chad Walker; Rodney Bacigalupo; Jeff Wu; Bill Carrigan; Cathy Raymond; David Patrick; Robert Kirchner; Henry Allen (with a best VP score of 70 in Round 1); Eric Freeman; Chris Gnech; and Tim Tu.

In the semifinals, the Galactic field was reduced to our 4 finalists (none from last year): Nicholas Vilagi (as Rebel Cantina); Henry Allen (as Damaged Alien Factory); Tim Tu (as Separatist Colony); and Eric Freeman (as New Sparta). Our 4 surviving Galactic adventurers would prove to be highly competitive as they did battle to see who be the “top gun” in this year’s Race for the Galaxy When the smoke finally cleared past midnight, Tim Tu would be crowned as our new reigning Race for the Galaxy champion (with a phenomenal score of 51 points), “outracing” Henry Allen in second place (with a very respectable score of 43 points), Nicholas Vilagi in third place (with a score of 36 points), and Eric Freeman in fourth place (with a score of 35 points). (Semi-finalists Robert Kirchner in fifth place and Rodney Bacigalupo in sixth place would also become Laurelists.)

The Finals began around 11:15 PM and at around a quarter past midnight, the scores were being added at the conclusion of the Finals. The Ultimate Winner was Tim Tu followed by Henry Allen, Nicholas Vilagi, and Eric Freeman.

And now a grateful GM, having completed his second RFG Tournament, bids you a fond adieu from the Galaxy!
