D'Tela Undefeated in Inaugural Beyond the Sun Event

The inaugural running of the WBC Beyond the Sun tournament as a Sponsored Event started with 18 players spread across 5 games. High score for the round went to Scott Schwieger with 61 points in his 3-player game while Jonathan Towne had high score for the 4-player games with 52 points. Of the five games played, three of them had only a two-point margin of victory and the biggest margin of victory was 6. Congrats to heat winners joining Scott and Jonathan: Chris Byrd, Sceadeau D'Tela, and John Corrado.

For the second heat we had 10 returning players and 7 new players also spread across 5 games. Scott once again had overall high score with 57 points in his 4-player game. Kevin Rice had a high score of 52 points in a tiebreaker win over Anthony Lainesse (Ray Wolff was only two points behind in last place for the closest last place score of the tournament). Besides the first-place tie one game had a one point margin of victory while two games had the largest margin of victory of 10 points. Joining Scott and Kevin as heat winners were Sceadeau D'Tela (second win), Robb Effinger, and Chad Weaver.

Moving into the Semi-Final round, we had 12 players compete in 4 games. Nick Henning, a second-place qualifier from the heats, turned in the highest score of the tournament with 69 points. Other winners included Jonathan Towne (55), Scott Schwieger (55) and Sceadeau D'Tela (58) who also had the biggest margin of victory for the tournament at 19 points.

The Final was a well-fought affair with Sceadeau D'Tela going undefeated for the tournament with the lowest winning score of the tournament at 37 points and claiming the only plaque for the event. Jonathan Towne came in second (34), followed by Nick Henning (3) who won the tiebreaker over Scott Schwieger (3) to claim third place laurels.

Thanks to all who participated in this great “Tech Tree/Expansion” title released in 2020 from Rio Grande Games. Hopefully there is continued interest in continuing interest in the tournament. If interested, please consider submitting a GM form for consideration next year.
