WBC 2022 was another great year for Trucker, but it looks like we need to shake things up a bit. On the difficulty side, the ruleset still seems fine. The stronger players are advancing to the semis, and we are seeing an acceptable amount of carnage when we get there. The finals revolve around the balance between bailing out and staying in, which is where we want it.
Our player base was down again, a bit beyond what we would have expected from WBC's attendance overall. I think trying to change up the times of some of our sessions would be good for next year. An early session in the week, probably on the First Sunday, and then maybe spread out some of the others some more.
In the Semifinal I participated in, round 3 showed defective connectors and a combat zone on engines. When Eddie got hurt by the combat zone he pulled from the round with a large lead (40 dollars over 3rd), but that allowed Dave F to score 42 and take Eddie's spot in the Final.
Amazingly, that exact pattern then reproduced in the Final. Again, defective connectors in round 3, and Sceadeau had a large lead entering round 3. Wanting to compete in another event, he quickly completed his ship to reduce time for others and pulled before the flight. But the open field allowed David desJardins to collect enough money and finishing bonuses to squeak past him and take the trophy.
