Henning Captures Liar’s Dice Crown!

Liar’s Dice had 167 players this year. We could have had 20-30 more but we ran out of games!!!! I brought 4 games myself but I can’t stress enough – Bring copy of the game!!! Unlike a couple of the other late nigh events Liar’s Dice there is no line where you can wait for a game to end so you can jump in. When we run out of games the late arriver just don’t get to play.

The rules were gone over and I promised that we’d be done before 1am again this year. The ceremonial first roll was made and 26 first round boards were started. Your GM lost two dice in two turns to collateral damage and was quickly out. We only had one straggler board this year and I ‘helped’ them finish in the allotted time. That set up 5 games in the Semifinal.

Semifinal #1 had Harold Henning defeating Rich Beyma, Andrew Birchard, Huston Johnson, and Art Wines to move on to the Final. Harold lost no dice this round and Art Wines earned 6th place overall by managing to be the first Semifinalist eliminated.

Semifinal #2 had Evan Boone defeating the feared Alan Jiang, grown up Aiden Powers, old man Tom DeMarco, and Canadian Sarah Stewart. Special shout out thanks to Sarah who helped me sign in folks this year!

Semifinal #3 had expectant dad (congratulations to you and Pascale!!!) defeating Alex Lange, Eugene Yee, Phillip Shea, and Sarah Morgan.

Semifinal #4 was stacked with Andrew Emmerick defeating Max Duboff (who ran the demo – thanks Max!!), Skip Maloney, Doug Galullo, Roberto Fournier, and Brandon Bernard.

Semifinal #5 had Alyssa Mills defeat Christina Harley, Joshua Coyle, Zach Morris, and Tony Bosch.

The Final five sat down and I noticed that the bookies had Harold down as a 4-5 favorite so I ran over and bet every cent on him at this heavy hitter table. The first round had Andrew lose a die on a twelve 5’s bid follow quickly by losing 2 dice the next round on a 5 star bid. Alyssa then lost 2 dice on a nine 6 bid and then the next round Andrew lost a die to nine 6’s as well and was down to his final die.

Harold then stepped up and showed why he was the favorite and was called on an exact bid by Alyssa and Alyssa, Francois and Evan lost a die. Andrew was immune since he only had one. The next round Alyssa lost her last two dice and was out in 5th place. That left Harold with all 5, Francois and Evan with 4 and Andrew with one.

Andrew quickly lost his last die to finish 4th and then Francois and Evan teamed up to have Harold finally lose a die and we were all tied at 4.

Francois then lost a die and was then called by Evan on an exact bid and Evan and Harold lost a die and we were tied again at 3-3-3. But just as quickly Francois called Harold’s exact and he and Evan were down to two dice. The very next round Evan called Francois exact and was down to his last die. Evan than lost his last die, finishing 3rd, leaving Harold with a 2-1 advantage.

In the end Francois lost his last die leaving Harold Henning the 2022 Liar’s Dice champ. I scurried off to collect my winnings! Oh, and we finished at 12:37am. Twenty-three minutes to spare! Congrats to Harold and all the finalists. See you next year!
