Trucker’s attendance was pretty similar to last years. The first two heats were pretty well attended, and then the third much less so. There were some people who asked about adding it to the Euro Schedule so that it wouldn’t get counter scheduled, if I’m still running it next year I will try and look into it.
The other main topic was first vs second edition. Many of the newer players only had experience with the second edition, making the Final even more of a high bar with the added intruders. We could probably move to either making the Final the same as the Semifinal and using the second edition, or perhaps even adding a second rough roads for the Final. But making the played game the same as most players have encountered does have some value
In the Final, the first rough roads was union ship. The scores were fairly close, with Craig having a 5 dollar lead. In the second round the rough roads was defective connectors, a tricky build with the ship with lots of holes. Making the start messier but perhaps the build less complicated, double 5’s were rolled, so our players only had to avoid one number during building. Building was very slow, with no one advancing the timer.
An immediate combat zone caused some damage, but nothing too bad. Then came a hazardous sector, which gave a friendly planets and an unfriendly predators (21!). No one was knocked out though. Then the carnage started, with a seeded psychocannibals causing Craig to give up since he couldn’t generate the engine strength. Karl was only able to keep 1 crew, and then Ian passed back a slavers which knocked out Karl. Ian was then forced to give up from a predators, so no one completed, and Ian took a small lead.
The final round was unusual, with a dead zone in column 6, leading to the usual confusion about what was available. Craig grabbed several juicy cash abandoned ship payouts. Then he manages to kill a big pirate that everyone else lost to, Karl being forced out. Amazingly Craig is then lapped, which I had never seen before due to Ian having massive engine strength. Finishing would likely have given Ian the win, but right after lapping he ran into a slavers and had to give up.
Craig crushes with his big cash payouts, taking the title.
