Once again Multi-Man Publishing was gracious enough to sponsor the Storm Over Jerusalem tournament at WBC.
Attendance this year was down from last year, we only had 11 individual participants. Our schedule seemed to bump up against a few games that pulled several players out of our rounds. We lost our champion from last year, Tom Drueding, because he was GM for an event at the same time.
We had a demo and ran through the rules and game play. After a short break, the Mulligan Round started. We had seven players for the Mulligan Round, so one player decided to just wait till the next round to play. The Mulligan Round saw two Roman victories to one Judean victory.
Round 1 started up the next morning and again we had six players show for the Round. We were missing a few players that wanted to play due to the previously mentioned schedule conflicts. Round 1 had two Roman victories to one Judean victory.
Round 2 was expected to be the Semifinal, but only two people were able to attend. So, this ended up being the Final. Andy Maly faced off against Mike Hodgkins. Early on Andy’s Romans were taking a beating from Mike’s Judeans. Andrew had quite a pile of eliminated Roman units after the first two turns. I thought things were looking bad for Andy. After a few turns the momentum had shifted and on turn 5 the Romans achieved an auto victory by capturing Herod’s Palace and the Temple Mount. It took a hard fought come from behind victory for Andy to claim the plaque!
In seven total games played, we had three Roman auto victories, three games that went to the end, and one game that was conceded due to time.
Overall, everyone seemed to have a good time and there were a few rules questions that were quickly answered in the rules. Players still seem to come up with different strategies, which is nice to see.
Again, I’d like to thank Multi-Man Publishing for sponsoring the event and congratulate Andy Maly for his victory!
