Hasay Captures First Bitter Woods Title!

In the FreeForm rounds, Michael Mitchell finished atop the leaderboard, with Johnny Hasay, Frank Sinigaglio and Wade Hyett rounding out the leader board. Unfortunately, Michael had a conflict with his finish in the Final for his team game and Wade was beckoned back to West Virginia by his dogs and cats. Thus, the playoff devolved immediately to the Championship with Frank Sinigaglio vs Johnny Hasay. Frank is a past Bitterwoods Champion. Johnny is a perennial top tier player, however, he has repeatedly fallen short of winning the Bitterwoods plaque.

Frank and Johnny are dynamite German players, but they both suck as American Players. Therefore, the most important die roll of the game was the one that determined sides. Both wanted to be the Germans. Johnny won the die roll for choice of sides, and he chose Germans. The scenario rolled was the 6-Turn scenario.

Johhny rolled well on the 16AM turn, getting a bridge across the Our at Dasburg and a good advance after the attack on the 14 Cav. The Americans fell back to standard positions and hoped for some bad rolls by the Germans on turn 2. On 16PM, Johnny rolled well at Clerveaux and advanced across the Clerf, while killing two units in the north. Frank dropped back to Malmedy and the Warche in the north, while holding in front of Vielsalm and in the rough terrain west of the Clerf. On 17AM, Peiper broke through and advanced adjacent to Trois Ponts. This cuts the road from Stavelot to the west, making the shifting of units for defense very difficult on succeeding turns. Frank attempted to turn the tide with risky counterattacks in the north and near Vielsalm. These attacks were problematic for the Germans, but they did not stem the tide, as Johnny was able to infiltrate units into the American rear. On 17PM, the Germans were adjacent to Noville, Houffalize, Trois Ponts, Stavelot and across the Salm. At this point Frank threw in the towel and conceded.

Congratulations to Johnny Hasay on winning his first Bitterwoods Championship. Coincidentally, Johnny won the Waterloo Plaque for the first time and people are wondering if Johnny is imitating Bert.
