First, I would like to thank everyone who voted in Formula Motor Race (FMR) to be a Trial Event at 2025 WBC. I heard many comments that it was missed in 2024. Thank you again.
I moved the times for FMR Heats, and that seemed to work out well for everyone, with one exception. That FMR was matched up at same time as other racing Heats, which forced people to pick on which event they would attend. I will have to work that out next year.
The FMR event started with a tutorial (demo). There were a total of 15 people show up for tutorial. For a few, it was just a refresher on how to play the game. But the majority of the attendees had not yet played the game and were there to learn. After a 10-15 minute introduction on FMR, we set out to play 2 games to give everyone a full understanding of FMR. I am proud to announce that two the attendees who had never played FMR before made it to the Semifinal.
We had a total of 102 people sign up for the three Heats. The first Heat had 56 sign-ins, with 10 games played, 6 6-player games and 4 5-player games. Heat 2 had 41 sign-ins, with 7 games played, 1 5-player game and 6 6-player games. Heat 3 had 59 sign-ins, 10 games played, 9 6-player games and 1 5-player games. Of those 10 games in the 3rd Heat, 3 were “crash” tables. Harry Flawd ran one of classic crash games that included WBC Convention Director Ken Gutermuth and everyone at this table losing out to his daughter Lisa Gutermuth. Heat 3 winner of the free FMR game was Ian Law.
The crash table in the 2nd Heat had Dacey Collinson winner of losing most cars. She lost a total of 7 cars in the six races, by losing both games in two of the races.
Being a Stat guy, here are the numbers for 2025 FMR:
The average score for 1st place was 34. The average score for 2nd place was 30.
Only one game finished in a tie for 1st and 2nd place. We did have a second game in the Semifinal that also ended in a tie.
Twenty-six of the 27 heat winers showed up for the Semifinal. Four second place finishers, Pria Saccenti, Dan Leader, Adele Gibbons and Roger Taylor, were added making an even count of 30 players in the Semifinal, 5 6-player games.
Katie Gray, Tessa Lytle, Elinor Glassco, Kevin Burns and Roger Taylor won their Semifinal games to advance to the Final. Adele Gibbons, by getting second place due to tie breaker rules, was the sixth player to make the Final.
Final
In the first race of the Final, Elinor was the only player to lose a car in race due to Spin-out. The crash card was not played. Roger started out in the lead with both of his cars getting points. The second race again saw no crash card played as well as no spin-out. Tessa lost one car due to Engine-out. Adele was able to win this race, giving her the lead with 16 points. But this came back to haunt her as she lost both cars in the third race, one to crash and one to engine-out. Kevin was in lead after three races at 19 points, Adele second at 16 points, Elinor third at 15 points. It was still anyone’s game to win.
After the fourth race, Katie pulled out an impressive run by getting a total of 14 points in that race to give her the lead with a total of 24 points Kevin moved to second place with 21 points, Roger now in third at 19 points.
Things really evened out after the fifth race, with a total of 9 points from 1st to 6th place. Katie had a total of 25 points, Adele and Kevin at 23 points, Roger at 22, Elinor and Tessa at 16 points. Tessa starts race 6 by playing the Crash card and rolling a 2, which knocks out one of Adele’s cars. Of course, she was not going to pick her car to be included in the crash, so Roger car was the 2nd car involved. Katie, as her last card play, chanced the Engine-out. She was successful on the first two rolls to get her car to second place but had to make one more roll to get her car to first, which of course came out bad. Final score for the Final was: Kevin with 33 points, Adele at 29, Roger at 26, Katie at 25, Elinor at 20 and Tessa at 18.
Thanks go to everyone who played in the Heats. Special thanks to GMT for provided the free game that I could give out and for gift certificate for the winner of FMR tournament.
