Kehrer's Cats Secure Victory!

This year’s event saw 24 unique players duke it out in our favorite woodland war game. Across the 9 games played in the Heats, there were no double winners with most players playing in both Heats.

All of the factions in the draft pool were picked reasonably often aside from the crows. They were the one exception that suggest the field finds them weak.

Eight winners showed up to the Semifinal. The Semifinal consisted of two 4-player games with each winner and second place advancing to the Final.

Game 1 was played on the lake map and consisted of Ian Moffitt in 1st seat, Luke McKinnes 2nd, Sam Burdett 3rd, and Dillon Horton 4th. Dillon chose the Rats. Sam next selected the Moles. Luke chose the Badgers leaving Ian to select the Vagabond with the Lizards being turned down by all players.

The Moles played a very small footprint game for most of the game, keeping large amounts of warriors in just 2-3 clearings. The Badgers utilized the ferry often to further increase their card wealth. Meanwhile the Vagabond and rats competed over items through the ruins and other players. In the end, the Moles were able to get to 30 with the Badgers falling just a few points shy at 28.

Game 2 was played on the winter map. We saw the Badgers, Moles, and Vagabond as well, however, instead of the Rats, this game featured the Birds. The Moles and Badgers would also eventually move on to the Final but in a very different way.

Jordan Kehrer’s Moles wound up winning through bunny dominance, exploiting the lack of presence by the other factions and 3 bunny clearings lined up in a row on the top side of the map. Badgers and Birds would both reach 29 at this same time with Vagabond at 28. We used high roll to break the tie for second awarding Felicia’s Badgers the last spot in the Final.

The Final was played on the winter map as well. Sam started the draft selecting Otters Having a bird ambush and a bunny ambush in his starting hand. Next Jordan took the Cats followed by Luke taking the Badgers. This left Felicia to select either the Crows or the Lizards. Not loving either option, she begrudgingly took the Lizards.

The Final was extremely tight with all players being quite close for most of the game. Eventually the end game came and the Cats were at 27 VP, Badgers at 25, Otters at 23, and Lizards at 22. With the Badgers up, they fell just short of getting to 30, failing to roll a 2 on an attack costing Luke the win. Cats were up next and were able to get the final 3 points to earn the victory.
