For the third year in a row, attendance rose as Stock Car Championship racing roared through WBC. Racers qualified for the Final table through a series of Heats with Heat winners automatically advancing, and the remaining field filled out by highest point-earners that failed to capture a checkered flag.
The first Heat was played on a one-mile oval course with 130 laps and a mandatory pit window between 60 – 70 laps. Heat 1 saw 3 races roar through Foggy Brews. In Race 1, Michael Buccheri kept the lead for 58 out of 61 of the laps that came following the mandatory pit stop. In Race 2, Ralph Gleaton took the checkered holding the lead after a caution flag was thrown in the 83rd lap. In Race 3, Patrick McLaffery edged out the win in the final 11 laps of the race.
Heat 2 took the action to the Foggy Brews Super Speedway. This was a 175 lap race with a mandatory pit window between laps 75-90. Josh Githens overcame the bad luck of losing “Learn the Track” in speed checks to ultimately take the checkered flag in the final 6 laps of his race. Meanwhile, Check Hubble earned a spot in the Final dominating the last 80 laps of a fast moving race.
Heat 3 returned to the Foggy Brews One Mile Oval and featured three races with hungry competitors looking to punch their ticket to the Final. Phil White picked up a win in a fast race with high lap counts lasting 10 rounds. David Schneider outlasted the field in a race filled with five yellow flags. Josh Githens picked up a second win opening the door for another person to qualify for the Final on points.
Top point qualifiers David Wolfe, Heidi Finzel, Andrew Buccheri, Rob Buccheri, Stuart Tucker, Rayna Klapp, and Curt Collins joined the winning racers for a 13 car Final. The final race was run on the Foggy Brews 175 Tri-Oval with two mandatory pit stops between 60-70 and 120-130 laps. The course was running very fast in the early turns of the game as the first 3 lap cards (rounds) drawn were 24,12, 24. During the first leg of the race Chuck Hubble’s #94 dominated the race prior to the first mandatory pit window. As the cars left pit row, Rob Buccheri’s #43 claimed the next 36 laps navigating through two caution flags that were thrown after Michael Buccheri’s transmission failed eliminating him from the race. Patrick McLafferty found daylight over the next 96 laps and was looking to put a stranglehold on the win. However, the final 8 laps saw a mad dash in the front as the top six cars traded positions desperately trying to reach the front. In the end, David Schneider pulled away to seal victory, followed a car length behind by Stuart Tucker and Josh Githens.
