26th TEAM TOURNAMENT: Yes, it is almost time for the 26th run for the slivers as the Happy Handicapper challenges one and all to best his predictions and win fame, fortune and glory in the Annual Bracket Bustin’ Contest. Check his early prognostications and enter your team now by emailing conventiondirector@boardgamers.org. Your teams must be composed of four pre-registered players—each vying in a different event. If you are looking for free agents to join your team, contact the assistant convention director at acd@boardgamers.org.

ONLY 8 DAYS LEFT TO PRE-REGISTER FOR WBC: WBC Pre-registration ends earlier this year (June 22) and walk-on rates are higher, so plan accordingly now and avoid the sticker shock later. The 2016 WBC Pre-Reg form and accompanying information is online. Current members who have already purchased Sustaining or higher level memberships need NOT pre-register UNLESS they want to register their team for the Team Tournament (the earlier the better please—especially if you have a new team name) or order any of the numerous souvenir and apparel items. However, the four-page folder contains much information on WBC so be sure to check it out anyway—especially for the time sensitive purchase of apparel items.

Note: If you are in the habit of showing up at the door and requesting extra days on your badge, be advised that the higher walk-on rates will apply. Increased door rates are imposed to encourage pre-registration and avoid badge reprints which slow the registration process for yourself and others. So, if you want to upgrade your membership, do so now before Pre-Registration ends on June 22. No Paypal payments or Tribune upgrades (with their accompanying gift card) will be accepted after June 22.

AUCTION/AUCTION STORE: The WBC AUCTION sold out in record time again this year and is no longer accepting lots. The Auction Store continues to accept submissions, but unregistered items will NOT be accepted on site.

ERIC RITTER OBITUARY: We belatedly report the passing of one of our own with an entry on the BPA Memorial page.

LAST CALL TO VOTE: This year's Board of Directors election ends June 15. Get all the information on the 2016 Ballot page. As usual, voting is effortless and takes only a moment thanks to the electronic ballot. All members (any paid attendee of WBC for more than one day is considered a member) are urged to vote since validation requires sufficient membership participation.

SCHEDULING TOOLS: An ever increasing array of scheduling aids including Steve Okonski's Personal Scheduler, Pocket Schedule and all-in-one Schedule is now on line as is a colored version of the 2016 program. Check the Schedule page for all of these updated scheduling tools, plus upcoming iPad and android apps and a new Kindle version as they become available.

LIBRARY ADDITIONS: New contributions to the Game Library will soon be posted. The BPA Game Library will lend out 2,000 games during the course of WBC week. Those wishing to add to the offerings can deliver them to the Registration Desk in Stag Pass or mail to BPA, 7766 Valley View Court, Hickory, NC 28602 for delivery by July 20.

CURRENT MEMBERSHIP STATUS: Those wishing to check their current membership levels may do so on the BPA Confirmation page. Use this page to check the status of your registration, troll for teammates, rides or roommates, or even Open Gaming matches or baby sitting gigs. Send requests to be added to (or deleted from) the list to Aconventiondirector@boardgamers.org.

GOODBYE BADGE HOLDER COLLECTION: If you are one of those who annually forgets to bring their WBC pouch badge holder and gets soaked for another $2 replacement every year, take heart. WBC now has one less rule! Since no two people seem to prefer the same badge appliance, we will provide an assortment to choose from—be they the conventional pin, clip-on, magnetic or pouch. You can choose a free pin device or purchase a more sophisticated version, or simply bring one of your own if you wish to save the planet and/or our balance of payments deficit. Just wear them, please.

PBeM NEWS

LEE REPEATS AS DIPLOMACY CHAMPION: Chris Lee successfully defended his recent PBeM Diplomacy title by besting a field of 35 in three rounds. Chris recorded two solo wins and a three-way draw in his three games to take top honors. Germany’s Martin Burgdorf took second with a solo win and a two-way draw. Arizona high school student Natalie Howard claimed third over highly ranked BPA gamer Tom Drueding, while another AZ high school student, Charlotte Anderson, bested ACV guru Kevin Youells for fifth.  One of the 15 games logged went to the end of 1913. The best country performances in order were France, Austria, Turkey, Russia, Germany, England and Italy. New laurel totals are posted.

KIZER LEADS PRO GOLF:
Chris Kizer leads 16 duffers who have made the cut after two rounds with a 12 under to lead Alexandra Monnin by three strokes going into Pebble Beach. It took PAR to make the cut to keep on rolling dice with 26 others falling by the wayside. Check out the field at http://www.nktelco.net/bdmonnin/PBeM_Scoresheet.htm.

VICTORY IN THE PACIFIC ENTERS THIRD ROUND: Three upsets during the second round leave Wayne Bonnett as the dark horse of the tournament. A second (of four likely) byes goes to Ted Drozd in the next round—which seems like justice given that Michael Day won the top seed by just a single AREA rating point. Probably the most interesting facet of this round is the dominance of the USN—prevailing by a 6-2 margin. In the games using options designed to balance the sides, the results were more balanced—with the USN prevailing by just 2-1.  Other players advancing include:  Joe Dragan, Bryan Eshleman, Philip Watkins, Tim Tow, John Sharp, and Scott Beall.  For all the details, see http://www.gameaholics.com/vitp_bpa/vitp_bpa_single_elim_15.htm.

Catch up on the latest PBeM News on the BPA website.

Remember ... all of the above PBeM fun is free to current BPA members. Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts. All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance of that calendar year. You need not keep your membership current in order to finish a PBeM event. Players may join the BPA throughout the year. See the BPA Terms page for details.

BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved. See the requirements to host a BPA email tournament at http://www.abovethefields.com/top_pbem/
