The version of the game used in the event is the Hasbro edition (2001). A copy of the rules and the FAQ for this version is available for download through the AH link above.

The event format consists of two heats advancing the top 18 players to the semifinals.

The top 18 consists of the individual game winners from each heat and then the top scoring non-winners from both heats. Non-winners are ranked based upon their score in the heat game as a percentage of the game winning score. For example, if the winning score for a heat game is 200 and your score is 190, then your percentage would be 95.

This allows for a more realistic apples to apples comparison between individual heat games in which the raw VP scores may vary widely. The idea being that a low scoring second (or even third) place finish in a good, hard-fought game is better than a high scoring second place finish in a runaway game. The moral of the story here is to always gang up on the leader!

The same procedure is also used to crew the Final game. The three semifinal winners move on along with the top three non-winning semifinalists based again upon their score as a percentage of their individual semifinal game winning score.

Be sure to check the event kiosk after the heats have concluded to find the rankings for advancement to the semifinals. Also, if you are not in the top 18 players as listed on the kiosk you may still be eligible for play in the semifinals if a player (or players) above you in the rankings chooses not to continue. Come prior to the start of the semifinal round to see if a slot has opened.

Please bring a copy of the game if you are driving! I know that it is a rather large and heavy item, but we are always on the edge of not having enough copies for the number of participants wanting to play. It would be unfortunate if players were unable to compete due to a lack of games.
If you have any questions or comments concerning the game or the event, please feel free to contact me at the email address above.
