One of the objectives of the BPA Board of Directors is to give the membership greater visibility into the deliberations of the board and to give insight into the things being discussed. To that end, we are publishing a quarterly “Tenth Chair” update so that everyone has a better sense of what’s going on with the board and the deliberations we are undertaking for the convention. This article details board activities from January to March 2025.
Memberships and Events
It is noteworthy that as of March we are trending much higher year over year for member registrations (1,070 as of mid-March compared to 928 at a similar point in 2024). There is a hope that this could lead to the best attended con in our history. We also have all preview pages loaded to our website at the earliest point ever completed.
Payment Changes
As a result of the growing automation of our web page and processes, the board supported Ken and approved a change whereby WBC will no longer accept checks as a form of payment for memberships as of the 2026 membership year. Anyone needing a special accommodation to this policy should reach out to Ken directly at conventiondirector@boardgamers.org.
Tech Committee
Work continues on the website and database development. Members will have seen the new registration page launched on April 1 and we look forward to a larger launch of new functionality as well as a schedule of launch dates of additional phases in the near future.
Marketing Co-ordination
In February, the BPA began meeting with other competitive gaming conventions (Prezcon, WSBG, Euroquest) to discuss possibilities of co-ordinating and enhancing marketing opportunities with a goal of cross-promotion at each of the events. While the initiative is in its early stages, the board is excited about the possibilities and how we can share our convention with a broader audience.
Annual Awards
The board has also been considering the nominations for the annual awards of GM of the Year and Hobby Service. There is a wealth of volunteer contributions made each year that build WBC into the extraordinary convention that it is, and the board is proud to be able to recognize some of the best contributions with our annual awards.
Continued Commitment to Engagement
The Board is also committing to continuing to take a more active role in communicating over Social Media throughout the year. We are continuing to commit to answering questions asked in the WBC specific forums on ConSimWorld, Facebook, and BoardGameGeek. If you are not comfortable publicly asking your question, you can also contact us through email to Ken directly at conventiondirector@boardgamers.org or to the entire board at bod@boardgamers.org.
