Stefan Mecay became the first back-to-back Caesar by repeating
as BPA's top competitor in 2010. His strategy again revolved
around running up a big lead before WBC began by winning or placing
in three email tournaments (1960, Manifest Destiny and Stone Age) and padded that further with a second at WAM
(Twilight Struggle) and cemented his title defense with three
titles at WBC in his Card Driven specialties (Paths of Glory,
1960 and Twilight Struggle). It was a far cry from
his record setting pace of 295 laurels in 2009, but still ranked
as the 4th highest annual laurel total earned to date. Even so,
it proved necessary to outdistance a record setting Consul performance
by the plaque king, Bruce Reiff, who finished just 19 behind despite
limited email and no mini-con participation.
Rounding out the top six BPA competitors for 2010 were Bert
Schoose, Terry Coleman, Richard Beyma and Robert Kircher in that
order. Only eight of last year's Top 25 players managed to retain
that high ranking (up from seven in 2009) led by Mecay who remained
atop the heap. The other top scorers to retain their high standing
were Richard Beyma, Keith Wixson, Alex Bove, Arthur Field, Tom
DeMarco, James Pei and Chris Byrd. Bove and Byrd were the only
ones to retain their Top 25 status for the third straight year
while 17 new names graced the leader board.

2010 Consul - Hail Bruce Reiff
This year's Consul winner left little doubt about the outcome—scoring a record 151 laurels at WBC while winning just about
everything he played and taking home four titles while placing
in four others. WBC's plaque king added to his prodigious collection—now some 44 strong—while besting Jeff Cornett's 2006 WBC total
by 17 laurels and that of his closest competitor in 2010 by 35
laurels. It is a sad day in Don-ville, the mighty Bruce has homered.
The other top contenders included Athur Field, Luke Koleszar,
Nick Henning, Bert Schoose and Robert Kircher in that order. Their
laurels tended to come in larger groups than Reiff's but they
were unable to match the diveristy of his mastery of no less than
eight, albeit smaller, events. Nick Henning and Robert Kircher
came closest—scoring in six events while the remainder did their
damage in three or four tournaments.
