Game wardens of the world rejoice! The moose population continues
to increase and the annual migration of the herd trying to cross
the Susquehannah at Lancaster Pennsylvania continues to swell.
53 contestants vied for the honor of being the Elchfest champion
of the World.
This year's tournament saw many great games and heart wrenching
moments of moose drama including a father-son showdown with rookie
GM Dan Dolan Jr. eliminating Dan Dolan Sr. for the second straight
year to advance to the semi-finals. Ah yes, forget all that Disney
circle of life stuff. What we have here is survival of the fittest
with the young bull taking on the old stag for domination of
the herd. Real life at its rawest. As the patriarch skulked off
into the woods licking his wounds, one was left to wonder whether
we've seen the last of the two-time former champ or whether there's
life in those flickin' fingers yet. With the other two-time defending
champion Bob Runnicles nowhere to be seen there would be a new
champion this year from the ranks of the young bulls.
The Elchfest final four was now determined. Dave Meyaard would
go moose to moose against Seth Kirchner for the right to play
either Dan Dolan Jr. or James Carvin for the Elchfest Championship
of the world. With a resounding splash Dan Dolan Jr and Seth
Kirchner fell from their stones to leave James and Dave as the
last two moose standing. However in Elchfest there can
be only one leader of the herd, and that moose proved to be Dave
Meyaard as he swept James Carvin in two games. A new champion
was crowned and youth has been served.
But beware ... shipments of Ben Gay and arthritic medications
to a certain New Jersey address signal serious finger flickin'
training is on the rise in some quarters. Circle of life be damned!
